Tough to watch a truly great team’s season end.

Should have a chance to be very good again next season ; my read on next season’s roster:

Out of eligibility: Lund, N’Dee, Member-Meneh, Levers

Can return of note: Gray, Akeo, Fairbanks, Gomez, Starks, Nwokolo; Browskie, Lockwood, Russ, Klika ( thought played well last night) , Flood,

Known newcomers: Nicole Mateo Quinones (OH), Julianna Dalton (transfer from Washington St- all Pac -12 freshman last spring), Dillyn Griffin (libero) I’m not aware of any others.

I’d expect Fisher to hit the transfer portal hard— would think at least 2 new more newcomers ready to contribute will be added— preferably at least one OH and a libero .

A lot of talent returning - could be another top 15 team with a couple of additions.

A lot depends on whether the Washington State transfer has fully recovered from the injury that caused her to redshirt this year. We have three middle hitters/blockers who could return (Gray, Starks and Nwokolo) but the only outside hitters we have returning didn’t get a lot of PT. The returnees have to step up their game and Fisher has to hopefully find two more in the portal. One problem is that I assume it was an easier sell to this years transfers because he could sell them on a realistic shot at a national championship. I don’t think he can do that with the next group.

I would like him to find a librero in the portal as well. I think we all saw how much a great one like Nebraska’s Rodriguez can influence a match.

Mateo a 5-8 OH? Another Meneh?

Wisconsin’s two All-American hitters are 6’9 and 6’8. Member-Meneh can jump out of the gym, but they don’t have to to be as effective as her. We always have been undersized up front, but the size of Wisconsin’s and Nebraska’s front court players underscored that.

Getting the 6’5 transfer helps our size and one of the 2023 commits is already 6’6, but we still are going to be undersized against Big 10 powerhouses. The big things we are going to need next year are significant improvements from Lockhart, Vasquez-Gomez and Russ, better libero play and better serving.

We can hope for another bounty in the transfer portal, but it will be a harder sell for Fisher. He can’t sell the idea of being one player away from a national championship contender like he could this past year because realistically that isn’t plausible.

Not sure where to put this, but Ross Rose at Penn State is retiring. Leaves a big power vacuum regionally. Their budget advantage isn’t what it once was, so it’ll be interesting to see who they pursue and hire.

Keep him happy. Pitt has proved you don’t need to be in the big ten to get to the tourney each year and make the final four.

I think they'll go after one of their former players and/or coaches.
