What Pitt player will get selected or play in the NFL next season?
Who do you like for the Steelers?
This year marks the 50th anniversary of probably the best draft ever by a single team.

I think the Steelers made the right move last year to jump ahead of the Jets and draft Jones. Unless someone they REALLY like falls to them this year (like Thomas from LSU maybe), they should trade down. The Steelers could possibly trade the #20 pick to:

GB for #25 and #41
ARZ for #27 and #35
WASH for #36 and #40

Then they end up with 3 picks in first two rounds, and 2 more in round 3, and could also take a project type QB with potential, like Milton from Tenn.

I would take any one of those offers.
The Center's should still be there at 30.
Wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers do trade back and pick up a WR instead of more pics, and also select a WR in later rounds.
Seems like they want another Tackle so we will see.

They'd be nuts to not trade back so I'm certain they won't unless they decide to blow it all on trying to get Ayuk.

Hard no on Milton from Tennessee or any quarterback in this draft class. Draft the lines hard. Do that this year and next year could be the year to draft a quarterback if/when it's clear that Wilson/Fields are not the answer.

In today's NFL build the team first then draft a quarterback. If we wouldn't have wasted the 2021 picks on Harris and Freiermouth (luxury picks for a team already built to win a superbowl which we weren't) and drafted Oline instead the Pickett pick the following year would have worked out so much better.

Milton in the third round is WAY too early.

Would love for a big WR to be there at 20 and have the Steelers trade down, maybe to Buffalo, and pick up an extra pick.

I've seen recent mocks of the Steelers picking Brian Thomas Jr. I like him a lot as a player but think he'd be a bad pick for us. Arthur Smith has trouble feeding 1 WR let alone 2 and Thomas is a skillset overlap with Pickens on the vertical stuff.

Would think OL (that kid from Duke is gaining steam) or CB if they don't trade down.

Yeah I’m not sure I’d draft Milton at all, but sure as heck not in the 3rd. He is a physically talented project. The Steelers already have that in Fields who is only a year older. If they draft a QB I’d prefer to take Travis if he falls due to the injury.

If the Steelers stay at 20 I think they go tackle or corner. Wildcard would be DL. I think they only go center there worst case where all the guys at those higher value spots are gone.

For Pitt players Goncalves is the safest bet to get drafted. Devonshire likely does too. Woods and Simon could sneak in but may end up UDFAs.

I forgot about Devonshire, 6th round Steelers ?
Who knows , maybe the Steelers will never draft another Pitt player again, seems like the Panthers excel in the NFL elsewhere after graduating.

I think Bub Means will be drafted, and my money would be on it being in the 5th (but we'll see, because it sounds like this is a deep draft at that position). Then I think Goncalves gets drafted, and I'm not too sure about anyone else. But I'd have Devonshire with the 3rd-highest chances.
I forgot about Bub, but he had a solid showing at the Shrine Bowl and tested well at the combine.

Milton has been a project QB with potential for about 7 years now. I wouldn’t even waste a late pick on him. He doesn’t have it, never will.

I wish I could remember who it was, but when Hooker took over for Milton in the Pitt game 2 years ago someone on here said it was basically apples for oranges. Anyone that had ever watched them in their prior stops should’ve known that one of those guys was exponentially superior to the other. Of course the Tennessee coaches should’ve realized it as well, zero excuse for them not having Hooker as the starter from game 1.

One spot for Milton in the NFL would be as a potential Hail Mary specialist. Guy does not have the skill to be a QB above the MAC level, but he can legitimately throw it 75-80 yards. At the end of half/game he could be a threat to get it to the end zone from places no other QB can reach.

If Milton had Hooker’s leadership and intangibles, that would be your #1 overall pick. But he doesn’t, and he’s not gonna develop them suddenly with NFL coaching.

Hooker wasn't recruited by Huepel. Milton was his guy, and promised the job to get him to Knoxville.

Coaches tend to be stubborn and a little prideful. I'm sure Huepel fell in love with that cannon arm and thought he could fix it and make it work.

I hear Milton is a fantastic teammate and really good leader. He just doesn't have the accuracy or quick decision making process to succeed at QB.

Are there many trades like your 1st 2 examples? I’d think the Steelers would have to add in another pick for either of those to work, most likely giving up pick 51.

I have also read that he's a good kid and teammate, very coachable, good work ethic. But as a QB you have to be good and your teammates have to trust your play in games to have real leadership as a QB. Accuracy and decision making are definitely problems for him. But not the only ones. His footwork after 7 years of major college football is awful. His instincts as far as avoiding pressure, when to run and when to throw, etc are all really poor.

There aren't enough roster spots in the NFL for Hail Mary specialists, no team would ever waste a draft pick on a QB for that purpose, and even with the strongest arm on earth, a Hail Mary is the lowest percentage play in football and one you might have to try 1-2 times per season.

Milton will probably get drafted because offensive coaches continue to be snake-charmed by his cannon right arm, one of the strongest ever, and they all seem to think they can teach him the other stuff. But at this point, he is what he is.

Bub Means is bigger and from the P5 Quez Watkins. In other words, he's an NFL player with a vertical skillset that is fundamentally required to operate an NFL offense. He's going to get drafted and be in the league for at least 5 years.

Depends on how desperate some teams are. Washington's top need is OT. GB needs an OT too, I think. The top end OTs might be gone in the early 20s. Arizona needs a WR, so if they don't get one at #4 and Thomas from LSU is available, might be worth it to them to make that deal.

I wouldn't make that deal for an even point value trade, but I would make it if the value benefits the Steelers.

After all the countless draft mocks and articles, I would trade down to around 27 and take a Center.
There is some concern around the top tackles in the draft, I say pass on them and get your guy in the middle.
Extra picks will be needed for the trade to Niners for Aiyuk. Really think that has a 50/50 chance of happening.

It won't go away .
My prediction is this will happen around draft time and the Steelers will trade down to pick up another pick.

That's the problem - everything the Steeler do is with the premise of it being a bargain. You're not getting Aiyuk for a bargain...ain't happening.

Agree, he wants 25 million a season too.
Not worth it IMO but I think the Steelers want a veteran proven WR in case Pickens flakes out.

You know, many draft years, the entire class doesn't have 5 Hall of Famers. I am talking for the entire league. That's how impressive that was.

20 could be a good spot for a team to trade up, too, if a dude like Brian Thomas Jr. is on the board. I think there's a pretty big drop off between him and the next WR.

I wouldn't mind taking him either. There is a million different options the team has. That is why the draft is soo fun.

Well, if everything we heard about the club "needing to win now" is true then trading for Aiyuk is a no brainer. It's a disastrous move, long term, but that hasn't stopped them before.
It’s hard to believe they would completely revamp the QB room with all 3 guys on 1-yr contracts and 1 in the twilight of his career, and then plan on going into the season with just Pickens, a draft pick and a bunch of filler. Have to think they are going hard for Aiyuk, especially after clearing the cap space with Highsmith’s reworked deal.

An Aiyuk trade doesn't make much sense. This team isn't close to Super Bowl contention. They should be stockpiling future draft picks so they can trade up for a QB in one of the next few drafts.

They should trade a day 3 pick to get a veteran WR instead of making a splash for a star WR.

Aiyuk doesn't make any sense in any world but don't be surprised if it happens.

I'd prefer they go in other directions, bu why would it be disastrous? Are you assuming they'd overpay for him?

It screams of arrogance and a total lack of self-honesty about where the team stands competitively and that is extremely consistent with how the Steelers have made decisions for the last 5 years.

I'm rooting for the Steelers this year but I'm going to be pissed if they jettisoned Kenny for another 9 win season. If they lose 3 in a row I just want them to tank and lose 10+ games. Just rip the dang bandaid off already (and get trade Tomlin while you're at it).
