Wriginis is a big loss. He leads the D in almost every category. Leads the team in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks & forced fumbles. Think of the big TD last week by Jackson, this was due to the strip by Wriginis. Plus he is the emotional leader on D and one of our smartest players.

With that being said I believe we have to make adjustments to make up for his loss and I think our best chance to do well is to play a lot of nickle. We have talked many times how PN is stubborn but to his credit he has played more nickle the past 2 games than pretty much the past 2 years.

I think the nickel suits our talent best. Plus we have less situations with a guy like Ziese or another LB covering a speedy guy.

CB is by far our deepest and most talented position. You have Jackson, Mathis, Pinnock, Coleman, & Motley and a few freshman. Basically Jackson plays most of the game and then between the other two spots you have a nice rotation of Mathis, Pinnock, Coleman & Motley.

Yes LB takes a big hit by not having our best LB but at least we are getting our best players out there at DB who can cover these small fast guys. At LB I think Brightwell has the talent to step up. In our base D, I believe Reynolds plays the run well. We will really miss the pressure Wriginis puts on the QB as he is our best blitzer, leads in sacks and tackles for loss.

Just my $0.02 but I hope PN plays a lot more Nickle getting our talented corners on the field. With that being said it still could get ugly against ND. But hopefully we can put it together for the rest of conference play.

We've been legitimately bad against the run too, so I worry about the combination of the return of Dexter Wiliams with the injury to Wrigins. And if we're worried about the run, you know Narduzzi is times ten. To be fair, teams like Notre Dame can beat you with the run or pass so it's tough. Hope to create some turnovers.

Are any of the db's you mention good tacklers? He was one of the few good tacklers playing.
Thought Herndon end of last year was productive vs the run.
The whole front seven has to transform and get pressure. Maybe ask the Steelers how they did it last game.

Wirginis will be a big loss for sure. But part of the reason he had those stats was his position. That being said we will see what we get from Elias Reynolds or whoever is thrust onto the field now.

Leads the team in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks & forced fumbles. ..as do a lot of middle linebackers... Look, I feel sorry for the kid and its a shame to go out like this but he was a below average college middle linebacker and I hope the next man up can show us something more...

Wrong. He was an nfl caliber middle linebacker and has been our best tackler and player

Former and current college coaches completely disagree with you.

Personally, he was having his most productive season as a player and he was a leader of that D -- he'll be missed. I think Reynolds was playing well as well, so Im looking forward to seeing him make plays as well.

Wow. Just stupid. He was one of the best LB'S in the ACC.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but he wasn't the greatest thing since sliced bread. He missed McSorley unblocked on a TD run and got caught looking into the backfield on a long TD pass where his man had a free run. I thought Galambos was less flashy, but more reliable and effective.

Actually I thought Brightwell did a better job. I thought our 3 linebackers were coming together as a unit late last season. I saw no reason to change the starting lineup. What had Wirginis done to deserve a starting spot? How had he earned anything?

I guess making the winning play in Narduzzi's biggest victory wasn't enough to make Narduzzi demonstrate any appreciation or loyalty. Wasn't Wirginis the reason Narduzzi had to go to Brightwell?
