I'm assuming ND needs 6 wins to be bowl eligible same as everyone else which means their not going bowling this year. So what's the net $ impact of ND being independent, not going bowling and not sharing in any conference bowl pot? Does what they get from being ND and independent more than make up for what they're losing not being in a bowl?

5 win teams can go to bowls if there aren't enough with 6 wins. Based on their APRs. Duke would be in the mix if they win next week....not sure about ND. All the 5-win teams that went to bowls last year won.

There will be some 5-7 teams that go to bowls this year but notre dame may do the respectable thing and decline the bowl.

Yeah I wasn't sure but was thinking 5-win teams could go if there weren't enough bowl-eligible teams. Just goes to show there are way too many bowl games if there aren't enough 6-win teams to fill them.

Also, I think ND only has 4 wins currently and their last game is against USC. Good chance they don't even make it to 5.

It's absolutely ridiculous that a 6 win team can go to a bowl. It's beyond comprehension that a 5 win team goes to any bowl. The minimum number of wins to be bowl eligible should be at 8. I thought bowl games were supposed to be for good teams at the very least. I must be mistaken.

So in that scenario, ND isn't even close to being bowl eligible. They're a bad team.

USC is a rival and will be up for beating the snot out of the Irish. ND has some serious issues especially on defense and can't see one recruiting class changing that. I truly believe that Kelly and his staff are not very good at advancing the talent/development that a top program needs.
