That was blatantly obvious. Let's see who else goes, Newkirk and Luther on the hotseat.

Why would Luther be on the hotseat? That honestly makes little sense. He is actually an ideal guy to fill the role he has. No team in the NCAA uses all 13 guys. You need some developmental guys in your system. We def would not want to replace him with a JuCo. If he leaves, fine. But we have absolutely no reason to push him out. None.

Not sure too if at this point a 3 star fr PG is better than a Junior Newkirk. Guess it would depend on the guy coming in I suppose, but I still am holding out hope he just needs some light to go on. He has had good moments, just needs to build on those. I doubt we are bringing in some monster guard at this point, and if we were going to get a Grad transfer for a year, I'd use Joe or Ty's spot for that. No way we bring in 5 or 6 guys this year. I think 4 is the number, unless someone transfers on their own.

What role? Luther had no role except being a practice player. Do you guys not understand we had zero depth this year and just went to the NIT as 4 seed with the worst guard play in the entire ACC conference. Changes need made and a roster overhaul is needed.

Newkirk has more holes in his game then a golf coarse. He can't shoot, score, rebound, defend, or pass. He does turn the ball over. He was the worst player in the rotation from a plus minus standpoint by a landslide.

2015 Bell and Diallo
2016 Gibbs Bridges Moore

We might get a couple, we might not get any. At least roll the dice and hope we get a couple. We got a hot start to 2016, push the gas pedal down and make it happen recruiting players, not projects.

Newkirk did not look good this year; his performance didn't grow the way Artis and Young's did.

But, many a Pitt player looked mediocre in the first two years at Pitt, and became good players in their last year or two. Patterson and Wannamaker are two prime examples. I'm not suggesting that Newkirk will rise to their level, just that it would be foolish to write off a Pitt player with a weak sophomore season and assume he is done. So many other Pitt players got better the longer they were in the program. I specifically remember people predicting that Wannamaker would transfer to a DII school because he didn't look like he could hang with Pitt.

I'm not giving up on Newkirk. Someone had to have a sophomore slump.

Luther needs to redshirt next season. There will be few minutes for him and he can focus on getting stronger.

Yeah, our #4 PF really held us back this year. It would have made all the difference.

Bell and Diallo replaced by Joe and Ty.

Or, if you suggest 2 guards (Bell and Sterling - if available) this year to replace Joe and Ty, you'll hear no complaints from me.

But why would you additionally kick 2 guys off this coming season for 2016 recruits? That makes no sense. It hurts our depth next year, which is exactly your point of where we were lacking. No team runs 13 starters out there. Nobody. The role of the 12th and 13th guy is to be the 12th and 13th guy. Practice players. That's a role.

There's no point in "cutting" anybody else unless we are pretty sure that we have some good 2015 commitments coming in. I wouldn't cut anybody else for another "reach."

I agree that a 3 star FR PG is better than a junior Newkirk but I wouldn't cut him just for anybody. He could still improve.

As for Luther, he did some good things in the limited time he played. He's a 5 year guy. Ideally, he would have redshirted this year, played a little next year, an 8-12 MPG guy as soph, and potential starter/key reserve as a JR/SR. Nothing has really changed any of that except for his Years 1 and 2 being reversed since he'd probably RS next year.

Maybe I wasn't here in the Wanamaker days

Wanamaker's sophomore season

19 mpg
5.8 ppg
3.3 rpg
2.1 apg
1 steal per game
46% FG%
39% 3 point percent

We went to the elite 8 this year. And, as a backup, those stats are really good. The shooting percentages are good. Everything across the board as a backup is good. He contributed in all areas and shot the ball well.

Ryan Luther is the least of this team's problems. He played well at times, especially early in the year. He played pretty well the entire Hawaii trip, looked real good against SD State and Kansas State, and played decent at Indiana when they came home. His minutes dwindled after Cam Wright came back though.

He's a decent developmental guy to have around as depth (10th guy material). You're not going to fill your roster with 4 star players, and most 3 star guys play like Luther did as a freshman.

everyone wanted newkirk to start over robinson this time last year and now we want to cast him aside. deserves another year to get it together especially with no depth.

how do they get the boot? are they year to year schollie's?

I also remember people wanting McGee out of here, some wanted Sam Young out after his freshman year. People actually wanted Aaron out of here. I'm sure glad Jamie didn't make those blunders.

Uchebo seems hurt for life, Haughton must be HORRIBLE, since A-P-N ( A LOT!), Lecak and Ko have played and he's never taken his warm up suit off! But why would you give up on Luther so soon? He has potential, he can even hit the 3 at 6-9, I don't see why you'd give up on him already, as a freshman, what he's done is not horrible, Gary McGhee had like 3 years worse than that before he was worth anything.

I agree, you can't give up on Luther.
By the way, McGhee was very solid as a junior. He stunk for 2 years, not 3.

There is maybe a 15% chance we get Diallo and a 1% chance we get Bridges. The rest who knows. What makes you think Bell is the answer? Have you seen him play? I doubt Diallo is much of a contributer his 1 season he would be here anyways. I'd much rather have Newkirk over Bell right now. I don't see a decent Juco player coming in and setting the world on fire in 1 year. Getting rid of Luther who should have been a redshirt would be silly. He probably won't be a starter, but wouldnt it be nice to have a 6'9 guy off the bench who can shoot the 3 and defend a little?

Bell was the JC player of the year, made over 80 three balls this year, and shot almost 50% doing it while leading his team in assists and steals The guy can shoot. His team is also in the hunt to win the National title. I don't need to see him play with those types of numbers.

Diallo isn't going to St. John's or Kentucky. So we are at 33%. As for Bridges, we made his early Top 6. fwiw.

If Luther wants to be here, then u definitely keep him. But he is not 6-9. He is closer to 6-7.

How much did Nasir Robinson, Tyrell Biggs or Gary Mcghee play as freshmen? Not sure why Luther is being written off. He's just not ready now.

Bell was player of the year in what now? All of Juco? Methinks you need to fire your fact checker.

I didn't correct squat. JC player of the year. On arguably the best team.

You can keep cheerleading for Dixon and the current guards if you like telling everyone the team will be just fine next year with this group of poor guards, but I tell it like it is.

You did correct it. haven't cheerleaded anything, am ripping the team worse than anyone tonight. You got that wrong too. Gonna go for the trifecta?
