That’s been the story of this offense all season.
And it starts with the quarterback.

Not only can’t they make a play, but they gave VT 7 points. That’s been the story of this offense all season.

When has he been on?Kenny is off today. But I think it starts with the inability to catch the ball when it’s right in your hands. And many times, it’s Mack and Ffrench (before injured). Agree with you on lack of playmakers. Especially our backs. Line not good and backs not up to par with prior Pitt backs.
Unless he took direct snaps it probably wouldn’t make any difference.I wished they would give Paris Ford some snaps on offense like they did with Whitehead.
When has he been on?
Good point. But he was very good against UNC. He’s not great, but he would be much better with receivers and TEs who could catch and even the semblance of a running game.
How about last week. When has he been on?

How many QBs have not been very good against UNC this year?
Any time a ball "hits a receiver in the hands" guys on here assume it's an easily catchable ball and the receiver is to blame. In reality, Kenny fires passes with wickedly unnecessary velocity often hitting the receiver out of stride leading to a drop. I've seen a TEs wide open in the flat and Kenny throws a laser two feet above the TE's head, TE manages to get a paw on the pass but drops it and everyone blames the TE. Before blaming receivers really think about having one of these Kenny Pickett passes hit you "in the hands" and think about how hard it would be to make the completion.
I go by what the coaches say too. They’ve been hugely disappointed with the drops. How many drives ended with drops? Ffrench last play of Miami. TEs have caught almost nothing. I do agree Kenny sometimes lacks touch, especially on the deep middle balls with no arc to them, but our receivers and TEs have been atrocious with drops and fumbles all year. Pickett’s lack of touch may be 10% of drops.
At the same time, Mack has made some outstanding and difficult catches too. I give him credit for those.
Hey it’s a team failure. Bad line play. Continually blowing drives with pre-snap penalties. Bad throws by Kenny. Way too many fumbles. No holes and no backs who can break tackles or make a big play. No TEs. Been a bad offensive season.
Not great? I’d say He’s not even serviceable breh. He can’t get his offense across the goal line. And better talent around him wouldn’t make him any more accurate or better with his reads and decisions. Some of the drops people are grousing about were throws that were off. A little behind, a little too far in front, wrong shoulder, etc. He’s just not a sharp, accurate passer. He could be better next year-but I’m not optimistic about that.Good point. But he was very good against UNC. He’s not great, but he would be much better with receivers and TEs who could catch and even the semblance of a running game.
Kenny played pretty well against UNC and psu. He has mostly been just solid, but he has had bad games against uva,Miami and vt. I think at this point he is what he is a solid but streaky division 1 qb. Even when he is "on" he still misses some easy throws and makes catches tougher than they need to be at times. That being said if Pitt didn't commit so many stupid false starts, holds and drop so many balls this offense scores enough that this team is likely 8-2, even with picket playing the same way. So he isn't the main issue he just isn't the main answer eitherGood point. But he was very good against UNC. If he was “solid” this wouldn’t be one of the lowest scoring teams in D1 football. He is wildly inconsistent at best.Kenny played pretty well against UNC and psu. This, Southside’s post above and Mike’s are all spot on. Blaming the receivers for drops when the ball isn’t where it needs to be is misplacing the blame. The receivers have had their drops to be sure-Shocky had a really bad one last night-but many of those “drops” were poorly thrown balls that “looked” on target until you see the replay. A throw only has to be off a little bit to allow a defender to get a hand in or to make it virtually uncatchable. A good knowledgeable color man like a Herbie or Blackledge points these things out during a telecast. A crew like the one that did the game yesterday doesn’t know a football game from a water polo match.Any time a ball "hits a receiver in the hands" guys on here assume it's an easily catchable ball and the receiver is to blame. You mean that game where we threw it 51 times and scored one TD?or against Penn State.

Come on let’s call it like it is here. Posters are giving the guy a pass because he had a couple of big passing yardage games-one against a 4 win team with a terrible D, one in a loss where the offense only scored one TD and bungled its red zone possessions. They want to blame receivers, refs, coaches, weather, etc for poor Kenny’s struggles but the fact is he’s not a good enough quarterback to get the job done. If this team was playing this season with any one of Narduzzi’s past 4 defenses we’d be lucky to have 3 wins.

Ok I’ll give you that one. So we have that and the big passing game for the OT win against a 4 win UNC team.
What’s your excuse for the rest?
Here is the other reason...for some reason this fanbase is all in on Narduzzi, so they are doing anything to excuse his recruiting fails. If he was “solid” this wouldn’t be one of the lowest scoring teams in D1 football. He is wildly inconsistent at best.

come on. You can’t have it both ways. A lot of you cherry picking Kenny’s couple good games are the ones telling me all that matters is the overall record, not the strength of schedule, etc.
the fact is that Pickett ranks 76th in QBR. That is not good.
Did I say that Joe? The original question was when was Pickett on. Replies were UNC & PSU. Neither of us said Pickett is playing lights out at QB. Quit trying to cherrypick to keep playing your agenda under multiple handles.
lol! There it is! The multiple handles accusation!!!
cut your agenda. Narduzzi is a failure. In year 5 we are going to have at best the same record as the team he inherited in year one against an inferior schedule.
Further, Chryst was crucified for not having a solid QB, and outright mocked about voytik. PICKETT IS WORSE THAN VOYTIK...yet here you are defending him.
Thank you to you and the others herein that are pointing out the # of drops that are not entirely on the receiver but also due to where the ball is being thrown in many cases. I’ve thought all along that the receiver drops issue is so overblown because this is never acknowledged. Yeah, many are still catchable but are nonetheless more difficult because where the ball is being placed. This, Southside’s post above and Mike’s are all spot on. These receivers just aren’t good enough to make Pickett look good on a throw that’s a little off. There are no Antonio Bryants in the group.
Pickett is just really inconsistent with his accuracy. It's a mixed bag. Some good throws, some awful throws, everything in between. There are some legit drops, there are some plays that look like drops but on close inspection the ball was not placed in a catchable spot. Very slightly behind and up high on the trailing shoulder of a covered receiver is a very low catch percentage play for the receiver. Even in the UNC game Pickett missed several big play opportunities to wide open receivers due to inaccurate throws.Thank you to you and the others herein that are pointing out the # of drops that are not entirely on the receiver but also due to where the ball is being thrown in many cases. And when many of these are caught, we’re often giving up a good bit of YAC because of the receiver not being hit in stride.
In my mind, we’ve only had one guy that has had a recurring problem of dropping balls thrown perfectly to him.
