Non FB Related Injuries

Tipton - Riding a bike
Wirginis - Water Skiing
Motley - ?

What is the deal with these? Put yourself in bubble rap for jimmeny sake.
Here's my issue with the dismissals, suspensions, and non football injuries.

IMO it doesn't seem like these kids are taking their roles on a D1 /P5/ ACC conference the best in NCAA football seriously.

They must not have much self discipline and little or no respect for themselves, families, PTT, teammates, coaches, etc. The respect thing relative to the coaches really concerns me.

Even HS kids on good teams pay attention to making sure they can be a part of their team during the season they compete!

I disagree, these are still young adults, you cannot live in a bubble just because you pay D1 football. None of that stuff is true risk taking just normal adventures.
water skiing during football season? Scholarship should be rescinded on the spot if that is what happened.

Wow if water skiing was reason, that's just sad. I know it cost me shoulder surgery.

Agree, this is the age they are to do that kind of stuff. None of them are NFL bound, so hopefully in a few years they are professionals in their respected careers.

Agree most of those activities aren't what I consider dangerous although water skiing is starting to get a little more dangerous, nothing like snow skiing. Riding a bike is something that a lot of football players do, unless he was mountain biking on known dangerous trails then I can live with that.

Steelers should have cut Big Ben after his accident?
Definitely. A 3rd year, Super Bowl winning, franchise QB in the NFL, who you would owe a large amount of money to either way, is totally the same as an already suspended part time SR LB on a terrible defense. And the timing was definitely the same seeing as Ben's wreck was 3 months before the season vs. during the 1st week of the season for Wirginis.

The cases are just overwhelmingly similar!!

I agree. said the same thing at the time.

Even finely tuned HS athletes on good HS teams who have a chance to win "stuff" are really careful with what they do in their spare time.
And really good HS coaches of good HS teams who have a chance to win "stuff" keep track of what their athletes do in their spare time.
Mrs Buffett and I have an example in our family. One of our sons now 29 was a really good snowboarder eventually represented a board and clothing co once he graduated HS , and competed in local, regional, and national competitions.
In HS he played football and was on a wrestling team that won a PA State Championship and had top finishes other years. The coaches in both sports Discouraged ( with a capital D) participation in sports like snowboarding, skiing, water skiing, surfing, extreme mountain biking, car racing ( popular in our area), etc.

I would think college coaches have similar concerns for risky off season or even in season activities. Serious Athletes should police themselves!

The wrestling room, football and wrestling weight rooms were open all year long which were encouraged along with football, wrestling camps and competitions. If an athlete gets injured its atleast in an attempt to be better in their sport!

It sounds boring but if anyone knows PA State Wrestling champs or teams ask the athletes how much time it takes to be that good these days. If you're a serious athlete you really dont have alot of time to do other things.

This was true of my high school football and baseball coaches, too. Of course we probably had less free time than these athletes do since there were no NCAA restrictions. August-November with football you got Saturday off. 6am-7/8pm M-F (obviously games went later) and 1-6 on Sundays. Didn't leave a lot of time and energy to go water skiing, when you are trying to get laid the rest of the time. Baseball was essentially no days off February-May. Coaches most definitely told us we weren't to do anything outside of our sanctioned sports which could affect our health.

chalk it up to bad luck. hamstring injury while water skiing. I mean if that's not "Pitt" I don't know what is. other guy got hit by a car while biking? You couldn't make this stuff up..
The strangest things happen to Pitt. My favorite might be when Antonio Bryant got in legal trouble because an airline claimed he was trying to fly with stolen tickets (or something)? I don't believe it cost him a suspension or anything though.

How does a full scholarship football player have time to water ski during football season?

That said, he was missing 3 games anyway, redshirting him isn't that big of a deal and he gets another free year of school.
