Wasnt this an ACC bowl game? Its Florida vs Tulane. Pitt got a non-ACC bowl and the ACC didnt send a team to its contracted bowl. Did Tulane/AAC make some deal with the ACC and the bowl game to send its team there? And perhaps Pitt was ok in going to Detroit for the much easier game?

Maybe Pitt didn't want their football players in Florida for a bowl game while finals are going on?
Do finals really matter? These are paid athletes we are talking about. The term student athlete no longer exists.
I think the Gasparilla, Birmingham and First Responders get one ACC team between them all. Sounds like a stupid arrangement, though.

As of the 2020 football season, the bowl has a large set of tie-ins, such that it could feature teams from eight different conferences as well as two independent programs:[18]
- from the Power Five conferences: ACC, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC
- from the Group of Five conferences: AAC, C-USA, MAC, MWC
- independent programs: Army, BYU

There are very few meaningful bowls these days. I mean maybe that was true for most of football history since they were started by and ran by local hotel chains and chambers of commerce but here we are.
