Report today that CFP playoff invites could be based on combination of records and TV ratings. College football is on the brink of extinction.
ESPN report today—-“One possibility, which could be viewed as a compromise, is having conferences earn automatic bids through their play each season. A model in which each Power 4 league can earn guaranteed spots through a combination of its teams' overall records -- and maybe even TV ratings, according to a source -- could be presented. The highest-ranked
conferences would earn the most automatic bids.”

Wow. You are right. They aren’t trying to hide anything.

Is that a bugle player I hear warming up for taps?

I think they're just saying that would be part of the equation used to determine the number of bids per conference. Then the top X amount of teams from said conference would make it in a given year. I don't think they're saying records wouldn't determine who gets in that particular season.

Regardless, the deck is now stacked enough that I don't care to be playing in the same level of competition as the Big Ten and SEC. I'd rather break away into some shitty league we can watch on the CW right before syndicated Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes.

The entire Sh*t-show was hatched by TV executives. They have ruined it for many.

Yea, this is really nothing. Just a justification that the P2 will get more bids than the ACC and B12 but we already knew that. I dont like TV ratings because they are heavily dependent on when your network partner schedules you. For example, this sounds nutty, but if the ACC wanted an extra bid they'd schedule all their games on Monday early evenings before MNF, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays at 5 & 8:30. Saturday mornings at 9AM. Sunday mornings at 10AM. Ratings would be incredible.

I do like the idea of a Saturday 9am game. That way, it will keep the English Premier League soccer games from being televised in the USA.

Actually, these ratings will be used to make sure that an 11-2 Indiana doesn't get a bid instead of 11-2 USC.
