I am saying this to myself for hope. We were not good last night in every way. I am very concerned with our lack of an offense that creates high percentage shots. We have far too few shooters. And X has gotten worse. Our defense doesn’t close out shooters well, we reach in all the time, and don’t box out.
With all of that said, I like the individual players. I was impressed with Jeffress shot and the pass to the post to Hugley was high level. I see Hugley as a Draymond Green type. He is emotional and has the same type of offensive style. Would have liked to see Collier more from the little I saw he looks quick. I have to think Horton just wasn’t right in the head. Maybe nerves because he was a step slow and way too cautious. I also know Champ can play much better.
I am not in panic mode because I knew this was a multi year rebuild. I also accepted that Capel is not a 3-5 year coach but more a 5-7 year rebuild coach for Pitt. It is like Narduzzi’s defense which only got better with better talent. His scheme never changed.
There just isn’t anyway Capel is going anywhere anytime soon. Nor should he. I think we need to take a longer view, remember how awful Stallings teams were to watch, and hope that our player talent improves and matures.
Maybe I am a fool for trying to see some hope. But what else is there?
