when this team gives effort, they can compete with most teams. When they play with very little effort and heart, they can lose to any P5 team and look really bad doing it.

That's bullshit. This team has talent, they just don't compete every game and they often settle for jump shots. This team was talented enough to whip Duke.

Not talented enough not to give top end effort and win, plain and simple. It's impossible to give top end effort every game throughout the line up with illness, bruises, off shooting nights, brain farts, poor coaching moves etc.

Del is pretty negative but he makes good points from time to time. He doesn't just spam the board after a loss, he'll actually compliment after a win.
Really, they lost that game because they weren't giving any effort? I can't agree, I didn't see them just going through the motions, they just weren't in a good flow on offense most of the game. Guys were throwing up clunkers most of the game but did they really settle for more jump shots today than in most games? When you get right down to it, they are predominantly a jump-shooting team. No one really drives to the hoop on any consistent basis other than Chris Jones.
What they do other than taking jump shots is excel on the offensive glass. That wasn't as good today but again, was it really because of a lack of effort. I don't agree.
Umm no. There are plenty of players across all sports who are inconsistent but still above average.
They got up 19-10 and then proceeded to take a bunch of 3 pointers in a row.
We were a step slow all game long. The refs were calling a tight game and because of that, VT got to the line over 30 times. We finally took the ball to the rim late and got to the line. If we do that all game long, we win.
Shame if true about maturity. This isn't a young team and I remember quite well when our 23 year old juniors were very mature.
