Not my fault Jeff

He’s a primadonna Dukie. Send him back to where he came from and find a coach that has a fighter mentality. A guy who has won at a lesser program and is willing to grind his way up the ladder.
Absolutely

Some day we've got to all recognize the irony of a guy who has made excuses for our previous coach for the last six years always bitching that the current coach is always making excuses, even when he isn't.
He’s making excuses and stop justifying. I own this it is my job to fix this would be the proper response.

He literally said "it's my responsibility" earlier today.

For some people, the only thing that would be good enough would be for him to say something like "I suck as a coach. My assistants all suck. I can't recruit. Neither can any of my assistants. Because of that, all my players suck too."

Which may very well be true. But no coach of any sport anywhere at any time has ever or would ever say anything like that.

And there he was on Channel 2 right now (from his post game presser today) talking about all the things that he needs to do better.

Mentioned in another thread that this notion of mental and physical fatigue along with yearlong adversity should not be spoken. “It’s my program and my responsibility” - that’s everything that needs said at these pressers. The players are still standing at the arc on offense yet they don’t launch when open - opting for contested shots. If only they’d defend the same arc by actually being, you know, near the freakin’ arc. Poor coaching. Over and over.

Losing that much is mentally and physically fatiguing .
Denying that reality is likewise silly

So I guess we’ve seen the last of those dumb-ass posts “I really like Jeff, he’s a great guy“ and “what a great representative of the university.”

But he was too mentally frail to be away from his wife!!!!!! It impacted his ability to stay awake to watch recruits!

My favorite is the relatively new one that yeah, Stallings may not have given his best effort here at Pitt but that's completely understandable because some people were mean to him at his presser. Who could be expected to do the job they were being paid millions for if someone is mean to them?

You have to mention wearing an official Pitt BLM shirt and his “politics” to compete the narrative

Great to see you two reunited. Your separation must have been unbearable.

Considering that, somewhat surprised you two don't empathize with Stallings some.

Why would I ?
I don’t empathize with Capel either not Dixon or Howland
Multimillionaires don’t need my empathy nor yours

Here is the actual quote, in which he takes full responsibility:

“Hell yeah, from when I found it [the program has made progress],” Capel said. “It was completely depleted when I got here. It was a mess. I didn’t know how bad it was. I don’t think the people inside the program knew how bad it was. Where we are today, from the first day I took over, is significantly better. Is it improved the way I thought it would be after four years? Absolutely not. No one is more frustrated than me with that. I take responsibility for it."

I guess that last sentence where he takes responsibility makes up for all the preceding verbage where he’s blaming things on everything but himself.

Can we recognize it for what it is…the basic ‘it’s my fault but it’s not really my fault’ line.

This is not Kevin Stallings fault. Focus.

Did he honestly say We need Better Players ?
Not only is that his job, he is throwing his own under the bus.
He is something else.
He said its his job to recruit better. Would you prefer that he lie? It is obvious we need better players so he is telling the truth

Hopefully most people are smart enough to see through the BS of blaming your predecessor for your current failures caused by your own capabilities, views and policies.

We played a walk on a lot every game
It’s pretty obvious we need better players
When there’s a presser and it’s nothing but coachspeak people bitch. When he gives honest open (and accurate) answers people bitch. And it’s obvious besides. If he says these guys are good enough to get where they want to go he’d be a liar.

And of course that problem is solely on him as others have said. But there’s almost no way anyone could win with some in this crowd. And I also realize that some people are just tired of Capel anyway. As am I. But the point stands.

He didn’t blame stallings
He was asked if he improved the program - he said he did because it was so bad , but not enough which “is my responsibility “

holy crap
At least take the time to read the actual question and answer

Geez , this is the the most obvious thing he has ever said . You think the players on the roster don’t know this .

His failure is 100% related to the players on the floor which he is 100% responsible for .

Pitt has had a problem since joining the ACC with having enough talent to be the team we want from the Big East days .

JD went from the winningest coach in BE history to a .500 coach in the ACC in three yrs and when he left he had a senior heavy team with no pg and with not much talent behind them .

My concern is that recruiting isn’t all a coaching problem , something is amiss in Oakland and thinking the next coach is going to come in here and instantly recruit 4* players is wishful dreaming .

Can Pitt do better than what JC has done , absolutely , but I know if I was a hot young coach I’m not coming here to ruin my career when if I’m patient I can end up at an easier place to win .

Pitt has a problem and I know I haven‘t seen anyone come up with a solution other than make money appear from nowhere and fire Capel and hire some great mystical coach whose going to turn things around and fill the Pete up !

Pitt bb is a mess .

A bunch of people on this board are clearly more upset with Capel's politics than they are his on court progress. He could win a National Championship here but if he did it wearing a BLM shirt they'd be upset. I won't name names but let's just call him Larry2. No, that's too obvious, how about GaryDos?

Anyway, my frustration with Capel is basically twofold. First, our players outside of Champagnie never really get better. It's a bit mystifying that we have rotated through it feels like 20-30 guys so far and haven't been able to make progress as a team in 2.5 seasons. Second, reports coming in from recruits that Pitt isn't recruiting them very hard. This one basically sold me that Capel isn't right for the job. Pitt isn't UNC or Duke that recruits itself. You need to get out there and grind after guys. That recruits report the worst team in the ACC barely even calls them is really damning about how Capel and his staff spend their time.

I've been ready for him to go for most of the year. Looks like we'll have to wait this one out through the 2022-2023 season but Capel is probably the most damaging hire to any major Pitt sports team in the last 20 years.

Two things , a black man whose livelihood revolves around young black men who doesn’t think BLM is an important issue isn’t going to be successful recruiting young black men . Old white guys are the only people who have an issue with BLM issues . ( if anyone hasn’t noticed most college bb players are black )

Recruiting hs kids this yr isn’t a priority now , he already struck out on the kids that might have provided help next season , he needs immediate help and the only place that exists is in the portal . His future if he has one here revolves around who he brings in this yr from the portal .

''... I can't recruit. Neither can any of my assistants. Because of that, all my players suck too."- He should also add, and for some reason the environment is conducive to players wanting to leave.
This seems pretty true so far, that's the bottom line, he doesn't recruit much talent and players who do come always seem to want out.

So the point is the OP decided to remove the context of what he actually said and emphasize an incomplete quote. What good does that do anyone, and what does it prove?

As many others have pointed out, WTF is he supposed to say? We suck, I suck, I failed, I can't believe this university is dumb enough to keep paying me to lose?

He's been a failure at Pitt. The reasons why are open to discussion and debate but nobody knows it more than the man himself. Contrary to what some want to believe, he's not stupid, not by a long shot. He has his own career and financial future to worry about at this point. And he's not going to become the first coach in the history of coaching to stand up and poormouth his program and himself after every humiliation. This chapter will run its course, most likely at the end of the 22-23 season. Until then, expect to hear a lot more of the same from Capel, he's saying the same things any other coach in his position would say.

Far from the first time. And as I’ve said before what’s comical is that he thinks this incessant ranting and raving is going to have some kind of real world impact.
