Not my fault Jeff

If he knows he needs better players why did he stop recruiting. Every recruiting article that has come out the recruit says he doesn’t hear from Pitt anymore.
They could be planning to go mostly transfer portal, WF seemed to hit the jackpot tht way.

A bunch of people on this board are clearly more upset with Capel's politics than they are his on court progress. He could win a National Championship here but if he did it wearing a BLM shirt they'd be upset. I won't name names but let's just call him Larry2. No, that's too obvious, how about GaryDos?

Anyway, my frustration with Capel is basically twofold. First, our players outside of Champagnie never really get better. It's a bit mystifying that we have rotated through it feels like 20-30 guys so far and haven't been able to make progress as a team in 2.5 seasons. Second, reports coming in from recruits that Pitt isn't recruiting them very hard. This one basically sold me that Capel isn't right for the job. Pitt isn't UNC or Duke that recruits itself. You need to get out there and grind after guys. That recruits report the worst team in the ACC barely even calls them is really damning about how Capel and his staff spend their time.

I've been ready for him to go for most of the year. Looks like we'll have to wait this one out through the 2022-2023 season but Capel is probably the most damaging hire to any major Pitt sports team in the last 20 years.
Fine, you are going to accuse me of racial or political animus.

Answer me one question:

Is it reasonable for “anyone” to have a problem with a coach expecting a grilling on transfers and internal strife to show up in a BLM sweatshirt? (You see no racial or political element on “his” part in that?)

Answer the question. I will accept your answer without comment.

It's just a shirt. Capel sucks no one here has defended him for weeks or months.

He could wear a suit of armor or a Ronald McDonald costume and it wouldn't matter to me. His clothing has nothing to do with his performance as Pitt's basketball coach. Moreover, it's the media's job to ask questions expected by their audience. If they are so easily manipulated by Capel's choice of attire that they can't do their job and ask honest/probing questions, that's on them.

I think it's more than a bit silly to expect that the media would give Capel a pass because of some letters that Capel has on his shirt. And I think it's reflective of a personal obsession that you have with BLM that you think Capel would wear their stuff to insulate himself from his terrible professional performance. To paraphrase Sam Darnold, "you're seeing (BLM) ghosts out there."

Well Terrell Brown was kind enough to accept Capel’s recruitment of the holdovers from the smoldering dumpster. Others fled understandably. But Terrell still hasn’t been recruited-over unless you’re waiting for Max’s GLF. Still amazes me that a true center couldn’t have been signed given the playing run available for the past four years.

True. Unless he promotes an exclusionary culture. Are athletes of all races, and creeds welcome at Pitt? He owes it to the university to bring the best talent he can to the school, without regard for their politics. Shutting out players because they come from homes of a different political view or ethnic background is a bad way to do business. I would prefer a coach talk about these types of things within the confines of the team to inform and educate players in an environment conducive to exchange of ideas and allows for their growth. The bottom line is that it works both ways.
Two things , a black man whose livelihood revolves around young black men
Overlooking 60% of the population to prove a political point is not fair to the University

Let's not get into what is obvious politically about this loser. It should have nothing to do with the reasons why he needs to be gone today. There are plenty of reasons to fire him for incompetence because he is hanging himself in that regard.

I’d think the vast majority of the university community would agree with BLM movement .

You’re talking stupid
We got black kids , white kids , mixed race kids , immigrants , and Hispanics on the roster
Jesus h Christ this place is a wall of stupidity at times

Only losers finding politics in Capel are self identifying

I don't know why you're so hung up on BLM shirts. I don't care if our HC wore an antifa shirt, MAGA shirt, or Qanon shirt if he was winning.

No doubt there is a true lack of diversity on most campuses, and I don't have any problems with coaches discussing their views with students or student athletes, and as you indicate, there is a perception non followers are not welcome.

I posted this on the pay board to someone defending Capel, but most of it is relevant here.

It's not "critical thinking" that you are doing, it is "creative thinking". Look, being positive and an optimist is one thing. But sports, the beauty of it, unlike politics is it is results oriented. One game? One season? Sure. There are always circumstances, reasons, outliers, aberrations that can occur both negative AND positively that makes it hard to come to any conclusion.

4 seasons? Nah. That's a book. It has been written. The results?

You can say "hey, his first year in the ACC they only won 3 conference games. This year they won 6". Great. They also won 6 games in year's 2 and 3. And this year, the conference is as down as it ever has been. We didn't have to play Duke twice. We didn't have to play Carolina twice.

Recruiting? 1 High School kid last year. Zero this year. So looking ahead, the future? OK. We completely lucked out with Mo Gueye. Burton is a decent player, but he is not anyone that is going to elevate us.

Results. Critical thinking. I see a coaching staff that has never changed. I don't see player development? Damned if I can figure out an offensive philosophy. Horton got hot for what, 2 games, maybe 3, then other teams guarded him and we realized why he was at Delaware because when ACC level kids guard him, he can't get open. Of course, it would be nice for the HC to recognize this and you know, run some sets, some picks, cuts, something to get open.

The team has no coach on the floor (PG) which matches no coach on the bench. Guys are what they are. Champ, Toney, X, were good when they got here. Hugley when he finally played showed he is good. But all other young recruits don't develop and or leave.

Results. I don't hate Jeff Capel. I now hate the hiring of Jeff Capel and the extension Heather gave him is every bit the disaster as was the hiring of Kevin Stallings. Every bit.

And Capel still doesn't get or accept blame. Is he trying to get fired? He is almost defiant. How is he going to recruit anyone? Who is going to come here and play for him? What, use "NIL" money, well if the kid is good enough so will others. We are dead. The program is dead as long as Capel is the coach we are dead. Done. There is nothing we can do. Nothing. At least realistically. This lineup adding a Brown grad and say a transfer from I dunno, Detroit Mercy or Richmond, aren't going to turn this into an NIT team, especially with likely Femi leaving.

Conventional wisdom “ . Heather has done a great job “ No she has not done a great job . She effed up her most important hire and more grievously the extension. Sorry I don’t want heather hiring the next coach. “ You’re out heather ,you’re out “

There’s no defense of Pitt bb the last 6 yrs . Overall they’ve been flat out horrible with a few bright spots here and there . The Pete once a great home court advantage is now a tomb and the program has a roster no one could win with and a HC with an expensive long term contract . Even the most loyal of Pitt fans are struggling staying engaged . The future looks pretty bleak , but it’s not hopeless .

In the early 80’s Pitt signed an All American out of Buffalo in Cutis Aiken , followed by Charles Smith and D Gore the next yr , then Jerome Lane , then Brian Shorter , etc . How did Pitt start getting players like these ? The Golden Panthers where in full flight then and if Pitt ever wants players like these they need to play the same game . With the NIL you can actually do it and be within the rules , it’s a lot cheaper to buy the players and boy does Pitt need players . Ten million to get rid of Capel and how much to pay the next guy , make the boosters put money into NIL deals and go outbid other programs for the guys you want , it will be a lot cheaper and I mean a lot cheaper to get players . Plus your never go to fill up the Pete with a middle of the pack ACC team you need a winner and for that to happen whomever the coach is he needs highly skilled players ..go get the players and do by any means possible.( within reason ! )
