Not the way we wanted it.. But necessary win

maybe it's better it had to be gut wrenching?

Since we needed the gut check
I was thinking that. A loss would have just been the end basically. Could not afford that. But to really have to work hard to beat a team you could've ran away from, maybe it will be enough of a wake up call?

This game showed that Jones and Maia belong in the starting lineup instead of Jeter and Smith.

It showed that folks who want Robinson benched in favor of Wilson are crazy. Wilson isn't ready. Give him his 8-10 minutes per game to get better for next year, but he can't run the team.

If Sterling Smith wants to see much of the floor next game, he better be ready to fire it up against the Syracuse zone.

Young must *STOP* dribbling into traffic. Just stop. STOP.

Artis must quit trying to make NBA no-look passes into traffic. Just catch and shoot - that's all you can do reliably anymore. And get off the weed.

Glad we won, but in all seriousness we should have lost to a pathetic WF team. We are not a good team. There is a very good chance we do not win another game.
Why should we have lost?

I agree we almost lost... and we could've lost... but why *should* we have lost?

If we lost, we should have won. It's a pretty simple formula actually.

Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose. Winning or losing is all one organic mechanism, from which one extracts what one needs.

If Scott Norwood makes a FG, the Bills have a super bowl ring. If Buckner fields that ball....if Laettner's shot doesn't go down....
I don't even wanna bring up the heartache that is the what ifs throughout the history of Pitt athletics.

Listen - I will take it, but there is not a prescription of blue and gold glasses strong enough or everclear in the punch bowl to convince me we should have or deserved to win.

We had more points. By definition that means we deserved to win. It's basic math for Zeuses sake!

You put Jones and Maia in the starting lineup against a UNC or the like and see what happens.

This was the wurst team in the league for chrissakes. They have lost 11 straight games. This was a badly needed win--and just barely--over a bad team. There is zero glory in it, and no problems were solved tonight. That's all it is.

We lost badly without them in the starting lineup, too..
So I'm not seeing the relevance.

Point being we lose just as badly if they start against UNC. Point being Chris Jones is still the same Chris Jones he was last week. A career game against an atrocious opponent didn't suddenly turn him into Michael Jordan.

The post was in response to a post that suggests that we suddenly figured something meaningful out tonight by starting Jones and Maia. We didn't.

We won in double OT against a bad team. It's another piece of evidence on just how mediocre to poor this team is.
As much as I wish it were not the case, the are no silver bullets that are going to dramatically improve this team. There are no magic player combination/rotations that makes Pitt competitive against UNC or other good teams except for Pitt to dramatically play above it's talent level for one game.

We are 7-6 now and maybe we can finish with a winning record in the ACC. It's not much but it's better than last year and should be enough to get Pitt to the NCAA.

And a guy who was shooting 20% goes off from the line because we're absolutely horrible defending the perimeter and have been for a while.

If Pitt had forced Wake to shoot 39% instead of 41% they would have won in regulation.

41.4% from three is a ridiculous number. Period.

Even our best teams had games like this against bad teams.

It's college Sports.

Yeah, I will make no justifications for this team, because I am on board the we are mediocre train. That being said, UNC's closest win was a 3 point edge over BC. BC!!!!!! You could play the same what if game with that. Things are not better here, well, maybe slightly, a loss would have ended our tourney hopes. But nonetheless, a win is a win. This team last year would have folded, and did. At least they (or at least some of they) battled.

Well, after being left for dead by many, including me, Chris Jones has played himself into the starting lineup. He's had 3 fairly productive games in a row.

That doesn't mean we found anything, except that Jones is a slightly bettr option than Smith. Or has been recently.

I'm sure you are referencing his play in the 2nd half during the meltdown. He had Smith in there as his running mate - and Smith did absolutely NOTHING to get himself open - create some space for other's... he did NOTHING forcing Wilson to dribble around until finally Artis awoke and moved out to the wing. You can't blame a freshman when you got 4 guys basically standing around.

I think it's safe to say that Smith needs to sit. He has really been a major disappointment for a while now.

Maybe so, but he'd still look more at home in a Hofstra jersey. As long as we keep running guys like Jones out there to play critical scoring roles on this team, we're in trouble. Not sure there;s another P5 school where he'd start at the 2 or 3.

Hey, with our 2G play this year, Cam Wright is looking a lot better.

Jones was a gamble when UConn bought Omar Calhoun out from under us. Arguably we shoud have stayed with the productive shorter combo guards we used to get but Jamie swtched to bigger 2's. It hasn't worked so well.

Wright except for Senior season, yes.

I won't forget that, moron. You're a Nerdy lackey

Of course you won't. Because I've set up shop in your narrow kitchen. The fact that you've fabricated some sort of "vision" of who I am and what my background is in an attempt to denigrate me anonymously is the evidence. The childish name calling and insults are the icing.

One thing I don't get is Sterling Smith's shooting numbers, this guy shot the ball 300+ times last year and this year at Pitt is only around 110 and his 3point numbers were at 182 times at a 41 percent clip and he has only 82 attempts at 44% with five games remaining

Why won't this kid shoot the ball?

Seriously....thoughts?
