A totally healthy Joe Uchebo not the one Pitt got.Yeah - wouldn't it be great to have a Joe Uchebo type!![]()
with an Adams, or even a McGhee vs the Maia/ ANO wd got this team. Is 20-3 vs 17-6, IMHO.
Question is--will Manigault or Nix be that guy next season or, if not, can we find someone else good enough to intimidate in the paint and be a windex man on the defensive glass?

I agree that this team could definitely use a stronger center presence in the post, similar problem as last year's team. And I agree that Gary McGhee would be an improvement. However, I'm just not sure a Gary McGhee put's this year's team at 20 wins right now. You're at least the 2nd poster I've seen make that claim. I'll give you a reversal of the Miami loss but I'm curious as to which two of our double digit losses to Purdue, Lou, Va, NCSt or Clemson get reversed with Gary McGhee. I don't see 2 sure fire reversals in there??I have posted a couple times that if they even had gary mcghee they would be at 20 wins.
They do have real issues past that, but even a strong defensive, rebounding presence at center would make a really big difference. Make them a sure tournament team vs tumbling toward the bubble.
Yeah-who needs guards?with an Adams, or even a McGhee vs the Maia/ ANO wd got this team. Is 20-3 vs 17-6, IMHO.

Yeah-who needs guards?
Need both but an inside presence would solve so many rebounding and lane defending problems while taking a huge burden off of Young. I can see our guard situation getting better going forward but Jamie needs to land a good big both this year and next.In my mind, our guard play seems to be a bigger problem that the five.
I agree, you add Patrick Ewing to this team, it would be much better.
I am right there with you! I think this team needs guards and specifically a good 2! Doesn't have to be Vonteego Cummings good, just has to be a shooter we can depend on! I am really high on Kithcart being able to create for us next year. We have got to get better at the 2, simple as that!I think a viable scoring threat from the two makes everything better. JRob's shortcomings in breaking down defenders becomes less of an issue because of spacing, and defenses can't sag inside. Gives Mike and Jamel more room to operate.
My kingdom for a 2 guard.
Couldn't agree more. I was being sarcastic. Especially in today's game. Good guard play is critical, and the backcourt and wing is where the scoring comes from. The days of the scoring 4-5 are long gone.In my mind, our guard play seems to be a bigger problem that the five.
Vonteego was a lead guard. And a 2 needs to be able to get to the rim as well as shoot from the perimeter.I am right there with you! I think this team needs guards and specifically a good 2! Agreed....And you also have to remember this would have been Steve's senior year had he stayed. But it was pipedream for him to stay beyond his Soph.year so no way he's still with us as we all know.with an Adams, or even a McGhee vs the Maia/ ANO wd got this team. Is 20-3 vs 17-6, IMHO.

I'd prefer more of a Gary Harris, Nick Stauskus or JJ Redick type. A real scorer.Yeah, when I think of the 2 we need, I think of a Jaron Brown or Brad Wannamaker. Not necessarily a spot up sharpshooter.
Adams would've been an absolute monster for us had he stayed through his junior year. He'd have been a household name.Agreed....And you also have to remember this would have been Steve's senior year had he stayed. But it was pipedream for him to stay beyond his Soph.year so no way he's still with us as we all know.
i think of stauskas and redick as the type of shooter i was talking about. these guys would work but, a guylike vonteego, or a grayson allen from today, would be even better. As you, suggest, it would help to have a guy that could get to the hole! i am hoping kithcart can be our penetrator! We sure don't have one now!I'd prefer more of a Gary Harris, Nick Stauskus or JJ Redick type. A real scorer.
Nix will be a few notches below Cassin Diggs I fear, after seeing his pregame warm up. I'm talking the one about two hours before the game.with an Adams, or even a McGhee vs the Maia/ ANO wd got this team. Is 20-3 vs 17-6, IMHO.

He'd have a lot less money tooAdams would've been an absolute monster for us had he stayed through his junior year. He'd have been a household name.
How much time did Dunc spend at the 4 when he was at Wake? But not Tim Duncan, since he plays a great deal of power forward, and therefore is not a "true" center.
Sure. Not saying he made a bad decision. Just saying as long as we're dreaming around here......He'd have a lot less money too
Stauskas was a true multi talented scorer who got to the rim with regularity and impunity. Redick also had that ability but didn't need to do it as much in the Duke O. Neither of those guys get the credit they deserve for being able to get to the rack because they were both such phenomenal shooters that's all anyone thinks about with them. They were both explosive off the dribble. Grayson Allen is a very similar player to both.i think of stauskas and redick as the type of shooter i was talking about. these guys would work but, a guylike vonteego, or a grayson allen from today, would be even better. I honestly believe he has the eyes of the new AD and chancellor on him as well. Barnes' recent comments make it pretty clear that they want to see Pitt baskeball at least return to its prior level of success. Dixon isn't on the hot seat yet, but if he doesn't change the trajectory of the program over the next couple of years I suspect he will be. The eyes of his bosses are definitely on the basketball program.agree with you about Ashton! We had a tough time recruiting one since Ashton left. Even some of the guys we have missed on have been misses(John Severe who went to Fordham comes to mind). It hurts watching college hoops around the nation and seeing other teams guards be far superior to what we have. Jamie should be able to get some decent guards, after all, they cant all go to Duke and Kentucky! He used to get a guy like Antonio Graves when he missed on Plan A. Maybe he will get less greedy and shoot for a solid guy instead of someone we can't get. Jamie, I am sure knows our deficiences, he is running out of time from a fan's patience perspective, I am praying recruiting improves, and fast!
