273 game streak dating back to the Nixon administration probably will end this weekend...kind of find that amazing in that they play a ranked Navy team... times are a changing.

This blows my mind too. Seems an easy sell. Two too 20 teams. Navy brings fans usually too.

That Navy / ND tidbit was important.

That's a relief I thought there was a sudden shortage of Irish Catholics who never watch football ever until ND plays.

I saw some things floating around saying too many November home games, more than usual. I guess too cold for them?

I am just glad that in this day and age of less interest in attending live sports, we have 70,000 seats available to sell.
End zone upper deck. Tarp it. Even though it only reduces capacity to something like 60K+, it still would give the stadium a feel distinctive to Pitt and show off the awesome brand is a loud, simple, beautiful way. Royal blue, Pitt script in yellow outlined in white. Done and done. It's something that needs to be done.

I believe they said they don’t expect the BC game to sell out either
Wow. This is actually kind of nuts. They just made the playoffs last year. And, they're likely to go 10-2 and finish ranked right around the top 10.

Is there an article explaining why this is happening? Spike in ticket prices?

I'll bet if Swarbrick thought that three November home games was too many so he offered to allow Navy to host the game at their stadium instead they probably would have said yes.

Problem solved.

I looked at their ticketing website and to me, it seems as if Navy and BC didn't come close to selling their alottment and there just arent enough ND fans who want to pay for those bad seats.

If those ass hats from south bend were in a conference then the games against Navy would still be played but the other 8 conference games would mean something. Just think if the last two games on their schedule were against BC and Duke. The stadium would be packed because it would be about contending for a conference championship.

Posted this in another thread, apathy has set in. My best drinking buddy graduated from ND successful guy, lives and dies with ND football, finally realized they will never win a NC. Watched the Duke game with him we were getting hammered he was spouting off every big loss they had had since the 90’s. They lost to BAMA Clemson and Georgia in the last 6 yrs two of those games were not even competitive. The Michigan ass whooping set them over the edge. Kelly needs to go kind of like when Dixon got stale here.

Did you remind him of the beatings Pitt has handed them at various times during the last 20 years.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a wealthy donor/alum didn’t buy the rest of the tickets and donate it to charity to keep the streak alive. It’s the Catholic thing to do after all.

I agree with one of the previous posts, sometime soon they are going to have to join a conference. What exactly are they playing for right now? If they were going for a shot at a conference championship, their stadium would easily sell out regardless of weather. It’s the best place to see a college football game.

How do you know that? If they were in the Big 10 or ACC they might not be contending for a conference championship either. Every team has "irrelevant" games now and then.

Yeah it has been coming. Attending football games is becoming alot like golf. People don't want to spend that kind of time. It is not money mostly, it is time and convenience. And like golf courses, these temples and memorials to those bygone days of preelectronics and social media, these mammoth football stadiums will soon start becoming the new golf courses, empty and outdated, with grass growing through the cracks. It's a shame.

Just like what is happening on the North Side/Shore. I get it, few benefit economically from vast concrete lots for tailgating. So build commercial establishments, collect tax revenues, etc....I get the model. But.....when you start taking away one of the main attractions of attending football games, that is communal groups of friends getting together for an outdoor party, and force me to go inside to one of these overpriced, overcrowded, loud establishments, well with HiDef TVs, I can just stay home and host a party at my house.

yep, anyone that thinks this problem is unique to Pitt is fooling themselves. Steelers post Ben could be interesting, although it is in the Steeler's DNA not to be total losers. Maybe multiple 8-8 type seasons and the fans would never bale on that. But more empty seats-no shows in November/December games.

I would agree with the time & convenience take to a degree. But, for ND, their ticket prices are ridiculous. $175 per game. Sorry... that’s insane.

Our son will be there - I told him to take a couple pics to see the attendance. I'll be surprised if it isn't as full as usual.

Any stadium with bench seating will look full with only 75% of seats sold.
