Cubs want to start bowl game at Wrigley Field in 2020 @TeddyGreenstein reports. No bowls can be added before 2019

Nyc is good because you have semi decent weather.

Chicago in bowl season???? U mmmmmm no

This is a really bad idea; a few years ago when Northwestern-Illinois played there, the field configuration was such that the corners of one endzone were dangerously close to the wall, and they ended up having every offensive series go toward the opposite end (so fade routes didn't end with someone breaking their neck). Unless they've since figured out a better layout, I don't see how that would be acceptable.

What I recall is that the one end zone in question was actually shorter than regulation. Years ago, Wrigley was the home field for the Bears, but I think that since then, they added some seating for baseball that cramped the footprint on which you could lay out a football gridiron (at least that's what I recall the explanation for the one truncated end zone being).

Yeah this is dumb. The New Era CEO said he did it because there is no major CFB in the NY metro area and he's right. The Pinstripe bowl is innovative. Imitators would be less interesting.

The Pinstripe is sort of an imitator too. Didn't we play Iowa State in the Insight Bowl, which was at the time, the first one played at a modern baseball only stadium?

I'm not sure what that bowl is called now or if it's still running.

If they want another bowl, then sure - why not?

But please....no affiliation to the ACC! Sign-up the Big Ten to play in it, in Big Ten country.

This was my first thought is well. The Northwestern/Illinois game played there a few years ago was a disaster. I have no idea what they could've done to make Wrigley Field bigger in the meantime?

This just seems like a really bad idea.

Late to the party, but yeah. The game played there was a mess, just silly.

I believe they only had ONE end zone and they flipped the field and played to the same endzone for every single possession. Is my remembrance correct?

Here's my recollection.....which may be flawed lol.
I think the configuration of Wrigley is the same, and for Bears football the right corner of the third base side endzone came up to the seats just as it would have now ...

when the NFL played there they just didn't give a damn because it was what it was .....but the NCAA was afraid of the safety issues.
The Packers would play a few games a year in Milwaukee and had a similar if not quite as close problem.

Not sure what they could do to remedy that other than heavily cushion the seating in that area.

Good call here , fun posts.

Btw ,love the bowls , although another added if one doesn't go away is stretching it....
But why not ACC /B1G???

I'd go in a minute, but we will freeze r arses off! Chicago cold is like the Burgh on Steriods!

What would the festivities consist of in cold wintery Chicago? Free tickets to the outdoor hockey game??

Unless they move the wall, ivy and bleachers 20 yards back onto Waveland Avenue this is a very dumb idea.

How would that work on a pick 6? Run to midfield, turn around, and start heading back the other way?

According to this article, when the renovations to Wrigley are finished it will be able to fit a proper playing surface. So...that's OK, I guess.

The article indicates that Wrigley hopes to host Northwestern games beginning in 2020. Is Northwestern planning to get rid of their stadium? It is in a residential area a few miles from the campus proper. I recall (many years ago I was Assistant to the City Manager in Evanston) that the residents there were quite unhappy with the presence of the stadium.. (Guess who had to deal with the complaints that came in when Northwestern installed lights there for night games.)

They could only use one end zone, because there wasn't enough space behind the one end zone

If they have a bowl in Chicago just think how many bullet proof vests the vendors could sell!!

If Pitt made this bowl and it wasn't before or the day after xmas I'd go, Chicago is a blast even in the winter. I'd rather go to Chicago in December over Atlanta, Birmingham, Charlotte, Detroit, El Paso, Nashville, or Shreveport any time of year.
