NPR: Marshall Can't Play in Their Bowl Game

There is a very inappropriate joke to be made here, but I'm not going there.

Nonetheless, this was only a matter of time. Or guys playing out of position, etc. These bowl game need to be played in the first two weeks of the regular season if they must continue. Then do away with conference championships and expand the playoff.

The Championship winning coach lied multiple times to the AD about his job search both last year and this year, and when the AD called his bluff he took a job at a school with a 1-11 record in the same conference.

And the players , as noted , all bolted in protest .

Just a thought

But maybe make the bowl games somehow tied into spring practice.

Instead of a blue gold game, go play Toledo in Detroit. The bowl bid for your season is played the following April. You do away with opt outs, and its a better guage of talent than an annual scrimmage.

Given the fandom of CFB i am guessing more people would tune in in April than after Christmas.

I don’t care when they are…I’m watching them. Your idea is interesting. Would the win/loss count against the previous season or the upcoming one?

Without giving any thought i think has to be the new season, with portal guys and seniors leaving / moving around.

If counted towards the new season, all of a sudden the bowl games are a financial bonanza for TV. NFL is off, baseball in firstb2 weeks and if scheduled properly, bowl games over before NBA and NHL playoffs start.

Im not that smart but this is intriguing

If they ever start playing bowl games in April they won't count for either. They will be recognized as the exhibitions that they almost always were.

Which is one of the reasons why it's not going to happen.

This is crazy. They've lost so many people to the portal that the school may cancel the bowl game.

This is really fantastic. I was hoping it would come to this. Hopefully this keeps up. I hate bowl games.

As I said a week or 2 ago, why the eff would you open the portal DURING the season? Open it January 1 when all but 8 teams are done. That wouldn't stop kids from Marshall from quitting the team but if the portal isnt open, they cant ben contacted and cant take visits so they might as well play the bowl game. For those that say, January 1 doesn't give transfers enough time to take visits, I do not care. If its that big of a deal then dont transfer or transfer the next time it opens in April.
