Since Pitt currently stands in 8th place in the ACC, it would seem that we need to satisfy one of SMF’s three options stated in another thread AND finish at least 5th in the Conference. I can’t foresee more than 5 bids going to ACC teams, plus perhaps a play-in game. We probably will need some upsets of teams in the current top 5 on top of meeting one of SMF’s three scenarios. All of these variables could break in our favor, but it’s a long shot.

Our place in the conference standings won't make any difference at all as to whether or not we get into the NCAA tournament.

Last year we finished higher than Clemson in the ACC standings, we went further than they did in the ACC tournament, and on selection Sunday we had a better overall record than they did. Which one if us made the tournament and which one stayed home?

Duke, Clemson, 'Ville, SMU, possibly WF if the committee gets generous. That's it, unless a dark horse emerges as the ACCT champion for the automatic bid. No one else deserves a bid.

If it comes down to Pitt or UNC for a play-in game, UNC would get the nod. UNC needs to lose at least three down the stretch and we need to take care of business. If we do not, we are going to NIT, with a first round game against RMU.

SMU isnt going to get in if they have 0 Q1 wins.

SMU:
0-4
5-2
9-0
5-0
Net 40

Pitt:
1-8
3-1
6-1
6-0
Net 51

Head to head: SMU by 20

Common Opponents:
SMU 7-5
Pitt 6-6

I think they can get in with no Q1 wins (they only have one more chance before the ACCT), but one thing is for sure: they're in a better spot than Pitt.

The season isn't over. If they end the season with 0 Q1 wins, I dont think they get in. I dont think anyone has ever gotten an at-large with 0 Q1s. Remember also, that their non-con SOS was terrible. Their overall resume is similar to one of those mid-majors who loses their conference championship and has to hope for an at-large.

I think SMU is really good. They remind me of Pitt last year in that they can do some damage but they are missing 2 crucial metrics. If Pitt has 2 Q1s and SMU has 0, Pitt gets in over them.

We basically need to finish at least 4-1. Preferably 5-0. Then win at least 1 or 2 in the ACC tourney.
