1. When a team makes a fast strike out of the box, the best defense is a long sustained drive. As your team is successfully and methodically moving down field on the FIRST DRIVE, why try a flea flicker where the spacing is about 5 yards apart. HORRIBLE CALL from Chaney and way to lose momentum
2. Notre Dame is a legit top 4 team at present and was the better team. If we win out, that would be a home run and no one was expecting more than doubles the first season under Narduzzi.
3. The ACC really needs to scrutinize their officiating after this year and recruit better units. The officiating was s disgrace. How can a spot be off by an entire yard. How can a pt tugging at a WR and pulling him out of bounds and the ball drops where he was not be a penalty. Was Ford's CATCH really overturned with 100 percent indisputable evidence. From all the views we say it was not 100 percent indisputable which is somewhat how the rule reads. Just atrocious officiating. I never knew that Helen Keller had children but apparently based on the officials on the field I was incorrect
4. I do not remember a Pitt football team going an entire year without a counter play or a screen pass. The defensive line's penetration was huge and some misdirection or screen pass would have kept them more honest
5. Given the fact that both Boyd and Whitehead were top recruits, are playing right away and and drawing national attention, it would seem that given the connections and exposure and Narduzzi as coach, this is a great opportunity to play
6. The first three games was marked by improved tackling. Actually very good tackling. Then it seems that the emphasis shifted to going for the ball. Now we are not tackling and still going for the ball. Seems we need to take a step back . Wanndtedt said " we need to run faster". Seems that the value of team speed was clear yesterday
7. We really were beaten by top 10 teams in NC and ND. We actually were better than Iowa but had not found our identity yet and given the team personality which Pat has developed ( party after the third quarter etc),we would have gone for that fourth and inches and the outcome may have been different. So in essence we have lost IMO to three top 10 teams. Nothing to be ashamed about. Going forward, I would like to see some misdirection/ screens on occasion. Punting and kickers have done well and the punt and kick off teams seem to keep trying to run sideways which will not work. Overall, special teams have improved.
8. I do not fully understand putting Parish out wide since he has caught ? 1 pass all year?
9. I would love to see a WR sweep to the long/open side of the field. We do it mostly to the short side and we seem to run out of room
10. Great vibe in the stadium and ND fans were polite and interactive
11. Boyd continues to be doubled team on almost every downfield route. It should open up other options.
12. QB pressure has somehow worsened as the year has gone on. Hope we can improve in that regard.
12. Optimism should remain high. Temple will be losing I believe 11 starters and falter and well Penn State will continue to be average. Pitt will clearly rise to the cream of the crop and hopefully be top 25 by the final polls this year.
Hail to Pitt
