We obviously need a center for next year. Personally I feel we need two of em, and they don't have to be great. They just need to be able to play D, take up space, and rebound. That done, and Young becomes the player he should be, an effective PF who can rebound and score.

IMO just as important a need is the addition of an off guard who can shoot and create his own shot. As with Young, that would (for all the Robinson haters out there) make Robinson a much better pg, in that he could concentrate on doing what he does well..., run the offense, and distribute the ball. He wouldn't be relied upon to score, something he doesn't do well. This off guard is IMO not presently on the team, and that includes Durand who is more of a three. He can shoot, and he occasionally slashes to the hoop, but he is also a liability handling the ball. Watching Wright at off guard was painful....he had NO off guard skills. Newkirk is obviously not the answer, and Jones (who's improved greatly) would be great off the bench for some instant offense, but much as I like him, he isn't a top level D1 player.

Off guard has been an issue almost every year on Dixon's teams. Gibbs was a shooter, but that's about it. Soooo...a center and an off guard, or we're next year where we are this year. Jamie, it's not only about the Defense.
Can it be fixed in one year???..WELL, look south a little ways...Huggy's doing it one year later at WVU.

Nah, I like the coach. IMO he's done a great job over the years, but a little tweeking of the system would really help and maybe move us to the next level. He's proven what he can do with average and above average talent. We've had some very good pg's and maybe one above average shooting guard (Gibbs). A player like that or a shooting guard like we see so many teams have (even mid level teams) would definitely elevate this program. I'd love to see an elite guard, like say Cat Barber, but we can live with a Robinson at pg if we could just have a legitimate scoring threat at off guard. The Cam Wrights of the world are great team players...they're just not starters in the ACC (nor the MAC for that matter). Jones is a great sub, and Newkirk is nothing more than a back up pg. Again, Pitt's deficiencies are not all defense related.

....and without a ten foot bubble of free space when he throws it up, a catch and shoot guy who can go on unconscious binges, even 5 feet behind the line, NBA distance. I'd take a guy like that to have on my roster even if he can't defend at all.

We need other players to make the point guard better? I thought the point guard was supposed to make other players better.

It is a team sport, after all. Make a perfect pass to a guy who is wide open, and he misses the shot, did the PG not do his/her job?

I don't think anyone could have said it better. Especially concerning athe center. GW's logan did was exactly what you described in a center and help set things up forthe rest of the team.

Unfortunantely you get the jerks who saty things like "a coach". Other than that great (honest) observation.
