Oklahoma State fan with questions about September 2017

No longer doing the family trip, it's turned into a guys trip. Looking at tickets in section 109 and staying at Hampton Inn Pittsburgh University/Medical Center. Is that an ok area, being near campus? We can uber to bars/restuarants and Heinz stadium. We are coming in on the 15th and leaving late on the 17th. Should we get tickets now for the Steelers game (~$150-200ea) or try and pick some up the day of the game outside of the stadium? Will they be cheaper right before kickoff? I'm surprised they are having games two days in a row on the field.

Oakland is cool if you're under 30, but if your a bit older , I'd be staying Downtown or North Shore if available. If not, then at least you'll get a feel for our urban campus and see the Cathedral. You could try dining at Legume on N. Craig street. Great food and nice bar attached called Butterjoint.

HI is okay for staying and as you mentioned is close to Pitt's campus. You can Uber anywhere you need to go. If you can get Steelers tx now at </= $200 you should do it. If you wait you may pay more and the closer you get to kickoff the chances that the seats are next to each other decreases.

Enjoy our city!

Didn't read all the posts, Carnegie Science Center, Childrens Museum, the Aviary all within walking distance from the stadiums

Also head over to the South Side if you're looking for some fun bars.

You'll be fine there but you aren't really on campus. Near campus...sort of on the edge of Oakland neighborhood towards downtown where small Carlow University and part of Pitt's large medical center are. You'll be about a mile from the heart of Pitt campus, which is walkable, ...the student union, Cathedral of Learning, Heinz Chapel, Alumni Hall, and Frick Fine Arts buildings are all worth checking out. The Cathedral of Learning and its Nationality Rooms (third floor rooms all free, small fee for the remainder) is a must see and you can't say you've been to Pitt without going inside to see it. Also intermingled with that core part of Pitt's campus is Soldiers & Sailors Memorial, Schenley Plaza/Park (where Phipps Conservatory is), and the Carnegie Natural History and Art Museums. Carnegie Mellon University is also right next door. There's actually a lot to see in Oakland in the part where the core campus is, but the bar and food scene is better downtown and other areas.

See this site where I have things to see and do around campus: http://csnbbs.com/thread-564078.html

Lock in your Steeler tickets now if you like the seats. One less thing to worry about.

Any suggestions for great places before the game to drink and hang out with Pitt fans? Any popular tailgating areas or bars near the stadium? Can you open carry beer around the stadium (@OSU we can carry beer openly anywhere on campus or around the stadium and into the campus buildings on game day, been in trouble on a few away trips where it wasn't the same)?

Also, any recommendations for bars that evening to watch Louisville/Clemson and Texas/USC?

We locked in our finals plans Friday, upgraded hotels closer to the Stadium, and are set for drinking and enjoying the company of Pitt fans all day Saturday win or lose.

many bars / restaurants all around stadium and parking lots. Heinz field has had some recent development with some watering holes all within a stone throw of the stadium. plenty of options, you'll have no problems..

Open container laws are lax on game day, you'll have no issues walking around the area with a can of beer.

By can you also mean case right? ;)
Thanks we'll probably stick around that area then to be close to fans after the game.

I saw Pimanti Bros has a location in the stadium on the Lower East and Lower West sides. Is it going to be the same taste/quality as going to one of the other locations or should we go to the original location after the game? I know in Stillwater we have Hideaway Pizza and its made its way to Tulsa and OKC metro areas in multiple locations and the ball park in downtown OKC and they are not as good as the original in Stillwater next to campus. I appreciate everyone's help. Can't wait to head that way.

Yeah dude, case, cases, bottles, you wont have any issue with beer in and around the stadium.

for post game, if you want some good food, more laid back dining, go across river to cultural district. If you just want beer and big screens within walking distance, plenty of options outside of Heinz in north shore. if you want to get weird with college aged kids and see some early 20's squirrel, head to the south side.

Is River's Casino any good? Website looks promising. Blackjack, Craps and Roulette. Assuming they don't have complimentary drinks while at the table, but its worth asking. I love a good heater.

The Rivers Casino is within 400 yards of Heinz field West side.
Enjoy and HAIL TO PITT!!!!!

On open containers, odds are it's no worries, but to be safe keep it restricted to the parking lots. Carrying unopened beers between lots is ok. Bettis Grille (closest bar to Heinz Field) is hard to beat for watching games. They'll have pretty much every game on and you can easily follow multiple games there. Primantis is certainly not gourmet dining, so sandwiches @ Heinz will be comparable to the other locations but the selection is limited by comparison. Penn Brewery nearby has Oktoberfest this weekend and is worth checking out, perhaps Friday night if you want to watch other games Saturday night.

Had a blast in your city! Can't wait to come visit again. Going through the tunnel and then having it open up to downtown, and the river, was an amazing sight to see. I loved the area around the stadium; bars, restaurants, the river, and the casino. We had a fantastic trip, and it was due to all of the wonderful people we met from Pitt. Couldn't have asked for better hosts, and wish you all nothing but the best in the ACC this year and building your program under Narduzzi going forward.

Is there a place to rent boats if you want to boat on the river and tie up for games and tailgate on the dock/in the boat? Would love to do that in the future for a Steelers game.
