Ford will be canned.

If Dixon were offered the OSU job:

A) Would he take it?
B) If you were Barnes, would you put up a fight?
C) You wouldn't dare give him more money to retain him, would you?

I saw yesterday an "anonymous" donor has come forward willing to pony up the 12 million for Ford's buyout. Good for them. This will be the 6th year in a row without an NCAA tournament win, which is unacceptable for a program like OSU. Not a blueblood obviously, but for the money they put out they should be able to do better.

OSU would have to come up with a nice chunk of change to buy out Dixon's contract--but I guess money is no object for them.

I wonder if there are such donors at Pitt. On another note, what a horrifying waste of money. Well, all sports is. But to pay that much just to fire a guy? Probably could have hired a contract hit for a lot less.

Agreed!
You'd rather have the $ 12 mill go to the program.
Indoor plumbing would be a nice addition for the Okie St fans!

WE know the length of Dixon's contract but we don't know the amount of the buy-out Dixon would be responsible for paying if he left for another school before the expiration of the contract. Oftentimes the school to which the coach jumps ponies up this amount as you point out. The buy-out is normally a a lump sum amount which is negotiated separately and isn't simply calculated by multiplying the number of years left on the contract times the annual salary.

A...probably not, but it seems they may have more resources and perhaps a good fan base.
B...no, not if it meant and extension or a raise. You would try to get as much out of it as you could though.
C...see B

These agents are geniuses for getting their clients these huge buyouts for doing a bad job. The guy at Memphis has a $10.6 million buyout, Crean about the same. Just crazy.

Corporate CEOs get same, as if they too were irreplaceable. People should stop giving these contracts. NOBODY is THAT irreplaceable.

In regards to their fanbase. There seems to always be a large chunk of empty seats for the games. This has been over the last few years. They do have more home run hitters in the fan base though.

Price of oil at $30... not so much.

Those guys have made their money hand over fist. They've insulated themselves from a potential hit on oil going down. You don't think they knew this was coming? Why do you think republicans were so mad about the Iranian talks?

No to all 3 questions

Wow - didn't realize that. I still remember sitting with a big group of friends at the Fox and the Hound cheering against hope that our upstart Panthers could beat them for a place in the elite 8 in 2002? (not sure the exact year and too lazy to look it up). They were really good and really fast.

2004.

Right after Krauser willed us to a win over Wisconsin in Milwaukee to get to the Sweet 16. We were the 3-seed, OSU was the 2-seed.

Organizations offer these contracts to Corporate executives, coaches, athletes, entertainers, tv , radio people, etc.because they expect a return on their investment. The contracts will stop when the revenue stream that the individual generates isn't adequate to support the value of the contract. It also helps "organizations" lock people up so a competitor can't get them. Some "organizations" pay people lots of money " not to work" ( non-compete) agreements so they can't add value to a competitors organization.
Workers that add value but are easily replaced and aren't a threat if they go to a competitor have no contract.
Simple math!

T Boone and his hand picked AD Holder will most likely make a run at Gregg Marshall. The OSU alums are livid that OU is having basketball success but they are still waiting for Hank Iba & Eddie Sutton to be on the bench sort like PSU Football thinking Joe Pa is returning. The AD Holder doesn't have the strongest reputation within the college ranks it's not the most desirable job.

I suspect that "anonymous donor" also has a football stadium named after him in Stillwater. Pickens was a big hoops guy, played in college, and has unlimited money to burn.

I guess Travis Ford being considered the most physically fit D-I coach around had no impact on how his teams played on the court. Weird how that happens.

Hopefully no donors see this post and get any ideas, or we may see a bunch of murdered coaches in the future.

Ford has brought in some big time talent that he's really squandered over the last few years. For all the complaints about Dixon's recruiting, Ford's another guy who illustrates that getting great talent isn't always enough.

Yup - Marshall is the guy they want.

Anyone ever heard of T. Boone Pickens? I don't think indoor plumbing is on their wish list.
Remember him well. He's the man who sunk Gulf Oil, and cost a few thousand Pittsburghers good paying jobs at the same time the steel industry was exiting the northeast.

This is where you have to think of quality of life issues. Stillwater, OK vs Pittsburgh. Think about that for a moment. Get back to me.
