On the offensive line, seniors Alex Bookser, Jimmy Morrissey, Mike Herndon and Connor Dintino will leave after the '18 season.

Really hope Pitt gets Ja'Quay Hubbard (6-foot-6, 318 pounds) and Kaleb Boateng (6-5, 290).

Thoughts ....

they also lost the wpial kid that transferred out a month ago. I don't see how you cant take at least 4, preferably 5. (if you can get them). I think you need minimum of 3 OTs too.

Morrissey ain't leaving. He's a sophomore. Read my post from yesterday where I mentioned that the Trib reported wrongly Morrissey's class status.
What should have been mentioned was that the grad transfer from Kent ST. will be
leaving after this coming season.

yeah, he's off there but they will be losing the grad transfer, who only has one year here so that's 4. They had another transfer out last month so there is room to take 4 to 5 with this upcoming class.

and lets face it, if chase brown isn't going to at least compete at a tackle spot, you might as well chalk that up as a bust. we don't need a juco transfer to come in and take 3rd string guard reps away from the younger guys. if he cant compete at tackle this summer, move on..

Honestly, I'd like to see them focus entirely on the tackle position with those spots. Tackles can move down to guard, and we have more than enough guys to play guard already. They need some promising tackles in the system, and not just guys we're moving from DE or TE (though a couple of those guys are intriguing at the position).

Bad info from paper, still an area of concern if they dont land these two who have Pitt as their finalists.

Big camp coming up for Drake and Warren. really need not only one but both of these guys to make a name for themselves here and show the staff they are two viable OT options at this level.

Would be unreal if one could take reps at RT and move bookser inside, even if it's sparingly like they did a few years back with biz and JJS.

I agree. The question right now is...how good are the backups. Are they good enough to take over in 2019. Chryst and Rudolph really recruited OL very
well for Pitt...as is typical of coaches from Wisconsin. Johnson, Bisnowaty,
and Bookser were all recruited by them. We have not had an OL recruit to match
them since. In fact we've had to rely on a grad transfer two years in a row now.
That tells me that even though there's depth in numbers, there isn't talent in
that depth.

Warren is on the level recruit wise of them. His offer sheet was impressive

I forgot about the rotation with JJS back in Chryst's last year. I'm usually opposed to moving around OL, and we saw the downside to that through the early part of last season, but that rotation on the left side of the line was actually really effective. Getting any of Hargrove, Warren, or Drake into that sort of situation where they can hold their own would help mold the line for 2019, and as you said. get Bookser back to guard where he belongs.

While Paul chryst landed a couple of very good offensive lineman, they also brought in a number of recruits that have not panned out for them. The lack of offense line depth is what led to the patchwork lines that we are seeing now.

The reality is biz and DJ originally committed to other coaches then fell to Paul chryst

Right now, if the past couple of classes of linemen don't pan out the way they hoped, Pitt is in trouble. OL recruiting feels like a little bit of a mess at the moment but some of that might be due to the coaching change at that position. I guess we won't know until camp opens to see which one of the youngsters makes the biggest move. Hubbard feels like a must get. Big and athletic.

The offensive line recruits this year are good prospects. I know Kradel can play.

He was committed to UPS until the tickle monster was exposed. Chryst had no shot at DJ until that point. Biz was a gift from Todd Graham.

Other than Bookser, I can't recall another Oline recruit from Chryst's time here being very good. JJS could have been.

DJ wanted Pitt all along but that other school scared his mother with the "Oakland is dangerous" crap after the shooting at Western Psych. Chryst, for all of the hate he got, did a nice job staying after a big time recruit.

Yes.

Charles Reeves and possibly Carson Van Lynn could move to OL. Bryce Hargrove is servicable. Also Gabe Houy looked good in spring. Have to hope guys like Justin Morgan and Brandon Ford take a step forward. I'd guess that Warren, Drake, Hargrove, Morrissey, Houy and some JUCO/Transfer will man the line next year ast the primary 5. No freshman will step in so dont expect it.

Which would be criminal in my opinion.

If Pitt wastes their Window with Pickett because they don’t have the line to protect him or the weapons outside to help him. Someone should be held accountable asap

Let's see if Pickett really is the second coming of Dan Marino before we get too excited but it's a big deal that WR and OL are looking thin on talent.

If he gets time and has some wideouts step up.

He is going to be our best QB since Marino, Congemi, Van Pelt. Not saying better but very very good.

Strait from someone very close to the programs mouth.
