I love these things...........but..................I am friggin tired of having to relive these now 40+ year old memories for this program.
May I suggest Pitt at Clemson, or Miami at Pitt, or PSU at Pitt within the past several years with the current HC.
Bright spots for sure. Sadly though, the exceptions and not the rule.
Yeah, but I would like to see things that aren't "one offs". Someday. Someday. Maybe. Maybe not.
My favorite pitt unis, the mesh ones (pitt players are wearing 2 different jerseys).. this was my first game I ever attended, a sign if there ever was one..
What a frustrating game that was. Our loss really set in motion what led to the most undeserving national championship team in the last 50 years.
Other than about a 5 year period in the late 70's early 80's, Pitt is all about 1 of's.
But hey, "We won the Coastal!!!"
Yeah....you would think we are due for at least a lightening strike again. Even if it is just for one year, rather than just for one game. Even Kansas has managed an 11 win season in the last 40.
If it ever happens again, it will start with a shut down defense.
Then you'd need a kick ass QB and some luck.
We never seem to be able to put the entire package together at the same time.
Always something missing...........
Obviously we have had some OBSCENELY talented individuals. Just never enough on the same team. I mean, always short. Imagine those 2007-09 teams with Palko or Rod at QB? Imagine those 2002-03 teams with Shady at RB or AD at DT? Fitz at WR on other teams? Or when Peterman was at QB, if we had a defense like we had in 2002?
Always short......but definitely mostly short at the QB position. And when we have had adequate QB play, our defense has been atrocious.
Pitt played some big names as an Independent and while in the Big East: USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Georgia, Penn State, West Virginia, Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida State, Washington, Ohio State, etc.

Playing UCF wasn't the problem.
The problem was UCF wasn't the UCF we signed up to play when the deal was made, they were actually much, much better. More bad Pitt luck.
