Watching the Pitt offensive line and their problems in the run blocking game is very interesting. Thinking back to the Shawn Watson Oline they could run block at a high level pass pro was a huge problem. This Oline is decent in pass pro atrocious in run blocking why?
Look at the run scheme Whipple uses.. Oline blocks are asked to zone block, power block, counter block and sometimes chip block.
When Pitt lines up in the gun and uses the zone read or quick hitter Pitt is decent running the ball why? They are getting into level 2 because our Oline can engage the DLine at point of contact they simply are being asked to make blocks they aren’t capable of when Pitt goes to the power set and heavy sets. The sets are creating tough blocking angles and blocking schemes that don’t suit the majority of college Oline guys. Whipple is putting the Oline in problem situations.
