Honestly, it was a stupid play call.
That was a very low percentage play and if it's incomplete you stop the clock with 1:05-1:08 left.
They should've run the ball and punted. To me, that would have been playing to win.
Assuming Pitt would have been able to get off the punt that Marshall surely would've tried to block, Marshall would've had to go at minimum 50 or 60 yards in less than 30 seconds with no timeouts... and that is just to get off a realistic field goal attempt.
There's no way they could've done it – even against that horrible defense.
Conversely, if that fade route down the sideline falls incomplete – and percentages tell us that most of the time it will be – you're now punting to them with more than a minute left.
That is asking way too much of a horrible defense.

Herdfan here.. enjoyed every minute until the game was over and we had to walk to the car and was pestered all the way... car punched... it's sad visiting fans can't just enjoy a ball game! You can bet Huntington won't be anything like that! You guys have a great team and good luck the rest of the season!!

Also, no offense, but who gives a shitt an about Marshall? It's not like there's a rivalry there. The conversations we had with Marshall fans were very friendly before and after the game.
Also, I didn't see any confrontations anywhere. I know that's anecdotal but that's usually pretty indicative of the mood. I didn't sense any tension at all.

In your scenario, the punt surely wouldve been blocked.
Had Pitt managed to get the punt off, Marshall wouldve returned it for a TD.
If somehow Pitt got the punt off and it wasnt returned for a TD, Marshall wouldve just thrown deep ball after deep ball... getting interference calls all the way down the field until they scored or got into FG range.
Every Pitt fan knows this in their hearts.
With this defense, absolutely no lead is ever safe... and certainly not a 3 point lead.

I agree. UNC went 60 yards in 23 seconds against FSU to win the game.
There was no problem with the call. Just where Peterman threw the ball. Orndoff was in the middle of the field with no one within 15 yards of him. It was a much easier throw.
Glad it worked out. Glad our staff learned you got to continue to play aggressive on offense late in games. Especially, when your defense cannot stop anyone
For Pitt to win against anyone this year, we will need to score at least 42 points. We got lucky tonight in that Marshall isn't that good and we could wait until very late in the game to get beyond 40 points. When we play anyone with a pulse, the 42 points is an absolute necessity. And the earlier, the better. We won't win games with scores like 24-21, or even 35-24.
Right, but North Carolina is a lot better than Marshall. And to go 60 yards in that short a period of time they needed a questionable pass interference call and they needed to make a 54-yard field goal.
Those are waaaaaaaaaay lower odds than them needing to go 60 yards in 1:08 or so - which would've been the case if Weah does not make a heckuva catch there.
I like watching the SEC and those teams do dumb stuff like this all the time but it works out because they have superior athletes. It worked out for us because our WR made a very athletic play – it's just that simple.
Also, I don't want to bury the lead. That was by far the best game Weah has ever had. We should probably talk about that a little more as well. We may actually have a receiver!
