Tough luck with the schedule this year. Disappointed only one home game in September. That is why I'm calling all Pitt fans to show up for our road game at Akron. Should get good weather, not far from Pittsburgh, easy for our fans from Ohio and up I-79. Let's turn the new rubber bowl into Heinz North! Who's with me?

1 hour and 41 minutes from Pittsburgh (even closer from the northern suburbs). The game will not be televised (probably ESPN3). I plan on going and don't see any reason why there won't be at least 10,000 Pitt fans there.

Very nice stadium - not much to do around it though

Might want to make it a day trip. Not much to do in Akron. Nightlife is a bit sparse.

The parking situation isn't that great for tailgating either. But the stadium is really nice. The campus isn't bad either - it has come a long way in the past 15 years.

I have always thought Spring Game in Erie would be cool and w/ Conner

it would be timely.

The Akron game is convenient for similar reasons for the geography.

You live right down the street from me.

I might actually go to that game. Have gone to Kent before because it is close but not to Akron.

Rockin' on the River is now gone and Lock 3 Summer Series will be over. They might have a Friday festival in September though.

Downtown Akron isn't tremendous but I'm guessing most people on here aren't looking to go clubbing. You can get a decent meal and a few beers while watching the remaining CFB games.

Doc, have you gone off your meds or are you having hot flashes? What's up with you and cold weather? Heck, Pitt is lucky to have decent weather in Pittsburgh in April. Why in the world would you want to risk a game up in dreary Erie then? If you want to hold it out of town....have it in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and have a beach party before or after...would likely draw more to that event than a spring game in Erie! Additionally, so many of you want to target Florida recruits...what a better way than to play our game in their back yards;) Hail to Pitt!

Yep, they play on campus now. Pitt has not played at this stadium yet. Looking forward to adding it to my list of venues for a Pitt football game--Akron--not so much. Hail to Pitt!

I'll bet you never won guess how many M&M's are in the jar? Pitt has not traveled 10,000+ fans to a road football game I have attended during my lifetime [and I've been attending road games since 1980]. If Pitt draws 3-4,000 on the road in Akron, it would be an awesome turnout [and may be possible with a win to open over Youngstown]. Hail to Pitt!

Uh oh, didn't know we had a Nit in our neighborhood

Better start locking my doors at night. :)

Any good recommendations for hotels near the stadium?

Is it in a "busy" area, or away from their campus?

It may be one of those MAC games they put on ESPNews. Cuse got one at Central Michigan last year.

Downtown Akron is not very big and it is a concrete campus. There are a few hotels downtown and within 5-10 miles of campus but nothing high end. If I were staying both Friday and Saturday, I would probably look to rent a house in either Akron or Cleveland. If I were only staying Saturday night, I would probably stay in Cleveland.

kjb - Why are you on a Pitt site? No trials this week?
Have actually been having a conversation with one of you posters throughout the week and saw the Petrishen post as well as this one.

Re: Very nice stadium - not much to do around it though

There are a few good bars near the baseball field...home of the Rubber Ducks.

What pleasant going away gift from Steven Pederson. Somewhere he is laughing as he spends the money Pitt paid him to leave.

Re: Reply

Out of curiosity, what is your estimate for the attendance of Pitt fans to Annapolis for recent games at Navy? It wouldn't have surprised me if Pitt came close to 10k for some of those games.

^^^^^^^^^I'm not a golfer but have gone to Firestone often for tourneys. Supposedly it is top notch.

I will definitely be there, it's not much further than pittsburgh for me. It doesn't sound like there is much parking, anyone know where you can park/tailgate?

Great idea -- anything is possible with this new admin and staff

However, it will stay in Pgh -- this is for WPIAL kids, for sure

Definitely the last 2 Navy games drew 10K or more Pitt fans. In fact the one 5 years (?) ago may have had 15K.

Can't believe I forgot about this and Pete didn't bring it up. Boulder Creek in Streetsboro is considered to be one of the top golf courses in the area. If you have ever driven across 80 you can see it from the highway.

I live in Akron and like the other guys said, not a ton to do but I do like the restaurants downtown. If you want to stay at a hotel, I would encourage you to look in the Montrose/Bath area (Lebron's neighborhood). It is about a 15 minute drive from downtown with a bunch of chain restaurants and a bunch of hotels (including 2-3 brand new ones). Remember to, Akron U is only about 15-20 minutes north of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Stadium is nice for a MAC school. should be a fun time.

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to the game - and some pay back. We definitely owe you guys after what you did to us in 2014.

Some upsets are flukes, but not that one. We got dominated - and at home. Still trying to figure that one out.....

I met a fellow from Akron at the airport while changing planes. He mentioned a taver in the city of Akron which is a hidden local secret due to the quality of the food. I forgot the name of the place. Any of you familair with Akron area know of this place?

Burntwood? I've never been but my wife was there about two weeks ago and said the food was unique and good.

I was at the game myself...check with the Pitt Ticket Office if you wish...Pitt did not receive anywhere close to 10,000 tickets to sell. Yeah, I know some came from Navy directly...but there were not 10,000 Pitt fans there. It likely was the highest attended Pitt road game I've seen since 1980...even more than the '81 Sugar Bowl. Hail to Pitt!

There were far more Pitt fans at the Pitt v. Navy game in 2008, as opposed to the more recent game 2013. The most recent game probably had about 5,000 Pitt fans. The 2008, and most highly attended in recent years, was in the neighborhood of 7,000 Pitt fans. Hail to Pitt!

I'm excited but I'm praying for a Pitt win. As a Pitt fan living in Ohio, it has been bad enough that everybody mocks me for not cheering for the Buckeyes and then Pitt lays an egg and gets whooped by Akron, a soccer school with a Kangaroo mascot. The buckets laughed at Pitt before, but now it is more sympathy. Their arrogance is so stifling. I just grin and bear because i have nothing to say right now. I feel like a little kid who everyone is hoping gets a hit in little league. I'm hoping for big things in the years to come. Still can't believe that our old coach lost to Youngstown and Akron during his career and even more, I can't believe I didn't want him to leave. The Narduzzi hiring snapped me back from drinking the kool aid and I'm pumped for what is ahead. Hail to Pitt.
Glad I can drive two miles to one Pitt game next year compared to the 2 hours for the rest of them.
