One of the all time epic choke jobs in sports history...

How about throwing after Jones catches the ball at the 23 yard line??? Take a sack and get a holding penalty to take you out of FG range and lose the game. Honestly that was worse than the Seahawks throwing the INT from the 1 yard line.

starting with the decision to throw on 3rd and 1 with a 2 TD lead, resulting in the sack and fumble. Credit to Brady and the Pats, they were flawless in the 4th Q-but that was a disgraceful last quarter and a half by Atlanta.

Sick to death of those damned Pats.

How do you not run the ball up the middle 3 times and kick the field goal. On the other hand the officiating was god awful. 3 straight PI on 3rd downs to give the Pats first downs and that last one to give them the ball on the 2 was disgraceful. The NFL has become a joke, if they want a team to win they will do everything to make it happen.

Matt Ryan and OC simply tried to close their eyes and hold on for 1.5 quarters, it does not work on football's biggest stage.

The play of the game was the second down sack taking the Falcons out of FG range that would have put them back up by 2 scores. Give the f**king Pats an out and they will find it. Those guys are flat out good. And I hate them. Also did you notice that on first and goal at the 2 in OT Belichick pulled a Pete Carroll and threw the ball. The DB dropped the interception and Belichick got off the hook.

Horrible play calling there, especially with a kicker like Bryant I take my chances with running the ball and him kicking the 53 harder.

So much for the whole matty "ice" Ryan thing. He really looked like he was crapping his pants
He was Tino in the 4th. Did everything wrong. Jones nearly bailed them out with that great catch of his awful pass, which put them in nearly automatic FG range. Then his OC and he both squandered it. They only really care about the money, let's be real, but they SHOULD both want to hang themselves.

I could not believe that they were throwing the ball on that first and goal. Nearly cost them a chance to win. Three runs from there has to get it a td. Turns out it only took one.

If they kneel there, they win the game probably, what, 95% of the time?

Did the late swing to the over hurt the books? I imagine public money in big games tends to be bet on overs, but I dunno.

Actually the 34-28 final won me 200 bills on a block pool but I would have gladly lost if the score turned out in favor of the Falcons.

Nobody kneels at the spot on the field
With that much time left. That doesn't mean you keep throwing, but taking a knee? Come on.

I think I read somewhere that a guy bet over a million dollars on Atlanta +3. I mean, what must he be thinking and feeling right now lol? Just wow.

If they go up 11 with 3 minutes to go they're probably like 98% to win it. Throwing there frankly was amazing dumb. And Ryan taking a sack is totally inexcusable.

Imagine if you had the Falcons, and the under. Both bets lost as late as possible.

Just brutal

I couldn't agree more. As impressive as it was what New England did to come all the way back and steal that game, it was equally impressed that Atlanta somehow managed to blow that game.

This is far worse than with Seattle did a few years ago. That was one terrible decision – this was about 10 of them in succession.

Falcon owner Arthur Blank looked like he was watching his mansion burn.
He gotta be sick. He's old and it's highly likely he never gets back. This year they kind of got lucky the Packers were hampered by injuries at the very worst time (but will be back strong), and the young and talented Cowboys are more likely to jump over them in the coming years, and the Seahawks are still lurking. This was a golden and perhaps only opportunity to take the championship.

I mean, it really is like the Pitt-Houston bowl game, where Pitt probably had a dozen or so plays, at least, where doing something right on only one of the 12 wins the game.

Even the coin toss in OT.

A Pats FG in OT and what, like 90% of the bets on this game are refunded?

Would've been a horrible night for sportsbook personnel here, cashing tickets all night and probably not getting many tips.

Also would've been a horrible result for me as well, laid -420 that the game wouldn't land on 3. Was a nice play mathematically, but didn't look so good near the end.

I wonder how many sharps lost 900 bucks (or significantly more) trying to win 100 that the game wouldn't go to OT. That bet was 50 for 50...not bad for only -900

Except that people actually care about the result of this game.

The move is usually to wait until a few hours before gametime before laying the price on props like no OT or no safety. The public always bets the big + prices on those props and the books are forced to lower the price well beyond their mathematical expectations.

My reasoning on laying the -420 that the game wouldn't land on 3 was that approximately 15.4% games do fall on the number 3. That translates to odds of around -550, which was exactly where most books that offered the prop opened at. Predictably the public bet down the big + money until it got to a price I thought had good value. Needless to say I was very lucky to escape with a win on this one.

I was trying to think of comparable Pitt losses, and I came-up with two: the Houston bowl game, and the Pitt-Cincinnati game which decided the Big East title. :(

Lol.
I admit I didn't see the first two calls....at work....but that last call was textbook PI. He didn't look for the ball and mugged the receiver. We as Pitt fans should know that.

AMEN...........they could have taken 2 Knees at 3:40 and use up more time, and still kick it, and win. The only thing to dislike more than Patriots was Atlanta's Coach's Decisions and he was at Seattle when Pat Carroll blew his own call a few years ago, if not mistaken.
