I mean, SC is a state with no big cities so it's not too surprising that one of its few cities would top the list. I've never gotten a bad vibe downtown Greenville. Sure there are homeless people but you'll get that anywhere the weather is warm and there are lots of people downtown.

Speaking of SC, I like Columbia as well. Not to the same degree as Greenville but it's got a nice area of bars and restaurants downtown near the University. Really impressed with the time I've spend in the state in general.
I am surprised Columbia is not higher than Greenville and also Spartanburg.

Greenville is another place worth checking out. I was in SC this weekend, and heard something I have never heard before…and that’s that Greenville is the #1 city for crime now in SC. So I guess that place has seen its best days too.
The difference between Greenville and Asheville is that Asheville crime and homelessness happens right in the heart of downtown.

Have a drink and or dinner at the Grove Park Inn. Great views at sunset. Expensive but worth it. Tour the Biltmore Estate and there are a couple good restaurants on the Estate Property.

Was there for a few days in March (2022). We did the Biltmore of course but that is expensive and takes some planning.

We dined at Wicked Weed, Twisted Laurel and Tupelo Honey---all are good choices although none are can't miss stops either.

We found the Omni Grove Park Inn on a whim. Awesome resort---too expense to stay on my own dime but a great place to visit---tremedous lobby and beautiful back decks. Would be a fantastic place to grab dinner and watch the sunset while overlooking the modest Asheville skyline.

By the way, for fun one evening we visited the Asheville Pinball Museum. Ten bucks for all the pinball and 80's acrade games one can muster in 2 hours or so.

Great town to visit--many places to see and visit indoor or otherwise.
I was there in August…the Omni Grove Park is awesome and the Saturday buffet awesome. There were too many strung out street people though. Almost hit one late at night as he was walking on the road. Not walking across the road. Walking on the road.

If you are visiting…..and it may sound touristy….but go to the Grand Ole Opry. I’m not a country music fan but the history behind it is amazing. I also had a chance to watch the Titans play a game when I was there.

Been to Asheville many times including a few months ago. Love it every time. Drum circles and the homeless do not scare me.

You are talking about Nashville, right? (not Asheville, North Carolina).

We stayed in cabins in Asheville and there’s a bunch of mountain hiking trails. One that leads you to an actual plane crash ( plane is still there) . Great place to visit.

Dammit, the last time I was in Asheville and hiked, this crazy guy chased me off his property.

He smelled too.

I'm heading down in December with the wife for the Biltmore XMas lights plus I made reservations at Curate. There are no reservations available at the Omni Grove. Will we be alright to just head over on Saturday or even Friday during the day and wait for a table? I'd imagine they don't let reservations to non hotel guests this far out.

Curate is truly great. The chef studied under Jose Andres. But HailtoPitt will tell you there is an Applebees down the street.

The grove gets packed, but go for the fireplace hot chocolate and viewing of trees and gingerbread houses. It gets packed in there but worth it.
