As a social studies teacher, coach, young adult, and citizen I hope the Panther Lair community is doing their part to support our friends who are people of color. I know many of you have probably seen a similar message on social media or wherever it may be. I’d like to share something that I’ve seen from the Head Coach at West Chester East High School (PA). He shared this earlier on Twitter. He gave me my first coaching opportunity while I was still an undergrad at WCUPA and I am more proud than ever to have been on his freshman staff.

“I am not black, but I see you.
I am not black, but I hear you.
I am not black, but I mourn with you.
I am not black, but I see the injustice that you face daily.
I am not black, but I see your fear for your sons and even your daughters.
I am not black, but I do stand with you.
I am not black, but I love you.
I am not black, but black lives matter.
I am not black, but my children (players) and friends are.”

This is the message for anyone who says they do not know what to say our how to support our coworkers, neighbors, friends...etc who are POC. This is not the time to stay silent, but the time to support our friends, to further conversations and to take action. Being uncomfortable is not an excuse to ignore the fact that our fellow American citizens are feeling distressed. That emotion is real. TRY to open your eyes and ears to WHY. This is not political, this is about humanity.
