the poster "recruitsreadtheseboards" got me thinking

do teenagers today read internet forums or do they just read social media?

Only pitt boards, and only the negative ones.

In all seriousness, I would if I were a teenage recruit. It would be too tempting to not want to see what fan bases thought

Tyler Sear reads social media at least. He responded to negative comments about Kevin Stallings on Twitter.

Of course kids read message boards. If we have enough time to jack around on here all day, don't you think they got an extra 10 min a day to see who is saying what about them on the internet?

Yep, and they take in what fans say in general. They aren't supposed to pay attention to what fans post, but many do.

I would think yes - this generation is 100% completely wired into social media and that would include internet forums.
I think you're 100% correct!
I hope you're wrong but I doubt it.
If I was a coach recruiting players I'd be Proactive and give them and their parents ( for what that's worth) a " heads up" on what they can expect on a "free" message board and tell them its probably not a great source of accurate information!

I would say yes, but I'm not so sure about a site like this. As a recruit, you really get nothing at all out of reading what someone on a rivals message board. And judging by how many kids still go to psu, they really must not. If BWI doesn't turn a kid away, these message boards clearly mean very, very little.

If they did and they wondered onto the Ped State free board, would they still commit? Hopefully the sane ones wouldn't. So either they don't read the free boards, or there are a lot of crazies.

Yes and so does football staff.
I would think that all sports administrations would have someone who would at least occasionally peruse forums. Keep in mind, the Sandusky case was blown open by postings on a board like this. Oftentimes the anonymity of internet posting allows information to be shared without any blowback. (Unfortunately the opposite applies too.)

They definitely do and they track leaks and other information.

i ask if they read the forums because you would think some of these kids would post on the forum, especially when bad things are being said about them

they respond to twitter messages, why wouldn't they respond here if they read it?

The only time they read the boards are after they post their "top 18".
