Huge waste of money. Looks like RMU will have a nicer arena
Did UPMC pony up 45 million?
I don't think WVU is looking to replace Mike Carey. Penn St. is another story. They are not the program they were when Rene was there, and I could definitely see them taking a run at Burt.Wonder how long they can keep him? Could see him wvu or psu.
So Duquesne's Arena name has University of Pittsburgh in it.

So does Robert Morris' arena and Westminter College's new sports complex.

First thing I thought this morning. Three non-Pitt UMPC stadiums. For RMU, I can't imagine how they'll ever fill it but that's another story.
I think our billionaire friend is a bigger pitt hoops fan than football. He endowed a schollie for men’s hoops. Heard he helped big time on the stallings buyout but not from any reliable person so easily could be bs.So, if you are scoring at home:
3 UMPC college sports venues, 0 of which are affiliated with Pitt
A rich Pitt alum invested hundreds of millions into the Panthers football team, but not the Pitt Panthers.
Field house was a high school gym. No better ambience in the world than some of those pitt games in the field house.Dukes have to be careful....close to looking like a high school gym. I know you want to create atmosphere but too small and you are screaming Div. 2. No one will want to play there (i.e. Pitt, WVU) but I guess they could always move to PPG for big games.

I think everyone on this planet gets this with the exception of posters on this board. It’s almost like upmc is an entirely separate entity from Pitt.

I was thinking the same. They are putting 45 million into it, adding luxury boxes and we have posters on here already bashing it. Weird. It states outright in the article that the seating capacity will remain roughly the same; I think you are making much ado about meaningless renderings.
You mean legally and financially. They're separate when they want to be separate and connected when they want to be connected. Hard to blame them for that approach.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Cal U and IUP will have nicer/bigger arenas and RMU's will only be a touch smaller but nicer. They are spending a ton of money on what would be one of the worst arenas in the CAA
That thing is way too big and was an albatross from day 1.

I wouldn't use CalU's arena as a comparison. That thing is way too big and was an albatross from day 1.
I'm sure they'd like to do something a bit bigger, but where would they put it? In some ways, it's not unlike trying to put a stadium in Oakland, although on a much smaller scale. Urban campus issues.Yea but its way better than what Duquesne is doing
