anyone in here have experiences with the Math or Econ program at Pitt? Sister is deciding right now between half scholarship at USC and full scholly at Pitt to study. She has experience in business and does research in number theory.Anyone have any input on how the programs are here/ job outlook after graduation? Thanks.

I only took one Econ class (Intro to Macro with Kenkel; great course/guy), but all the people I know who majored in it have done well (one went to GSPIA and got a job with the city, another went to UChicago Law, three got jobs in banking and industry). Can't say I know much about the Math department. Bias aside, I think taking the full scholarship to Pitt would be wisest, especially if she could parlay it into a position that will pay for her to get a Masters. Half-tuition at USC is still pretty damn expensive.

One of my majors was Econ. I thought the program was very strong. They have some honors courses within the major if she's looking for something more rigorous. I don't know if it's only open to Honors College students or not, but I'd imagine if she got a full academic scholarship that she is likely in the Honors College at Pitt.

Cannot speak to Math.

Pitt used to have a very strong economics department, far out-punching its rank. Going back to the mid 90s they've lost Al Roth (Nobel laureate), John Kagel, Phil Reny, Dean Corbae, John Duffy, and Ted Temzelides. It's still a solid department but faculty and resources are better at USC, they appear to be departments moving in opposite directions.
