OT: Good story on a serious issue

That’s a very courageous story for him to tell and it sounds like he’s having a very difficult time. However, his battle is not nearly over and Tennessee needs to get that young man a lot of help.

Never assume that someone else, "Has it made."

Everybody deals with "something".

Here's hoping that this kid gets all of the help he needs, and his story helps keep others from destroying their lives.

Without boring you guys with details, I have personal experience with serious mental illness in my family. It is so misunderstood and has a stigma that is almost as bad as whatever form of mental illness exists. My heart goes out to this young man and his family.
Sometime when our world has order restored, you will encounter a person acting erratically or showing signs of abnormal behavior. Please do not make fun of them anymore than you would poke fun at a cancer victim.
I assure you, they are suffering terribly (though they may not know it exactly) and their families are praying for a miracle. A miracle that statistically will never come true.

Well said. You’re so right. The world would be a better place if more people felt this way.

It’s better than it used to be but has miles and miles to go.

And the sad thing is, as much as you try it is almost impossible to help them. Very hard to have effective communication. Sad and draining for all involved.

I recall seeing him take a pretty serious hit that had him land on his head and neck a certain way. He was also in and out of the rotation at QB. Lots of unknowns for his playing time and coaches unable to settle on one QB. lots of different issues this year for him all combined to make things tough to manage.

Well said. Also, there are people who hide it so well and suddenly pop. Don't ever assume you know someone else's story.

Also, many depressed people who don't receive help then "self medicate" with alcohol, causing additional physical and mental problems, all because of the stigma attached to mental illness.

One of my big "peeves" about the economy and the virus is that suddenly, suicides are a useful talking point. Man, it's a problem every day even in really good times. 1.4 million attempted suicides in 2017. We hear about the flu but suicide is right behind it in deaths per year at like 47k. Over ten percent of those are veterans. We should be pissed about that.

Glad this kid didn’t follow through. Slightly different but similar circumstances to the kid at Wash St who committed suicide. Can’t imaging the emptiness and pain that one feels to lose all hope like that

The PTSD after coronavirus is going to be horrific. Too many people are too stressed without any opportunity to alleviate that stress. Also, many of those folks live alone and are becoming increasingly isolated. There will definitely be terrible suicide numbers domestically and worldwide in 2021 and 2022 at least.
