I didn't google the address but my guess is in the same strip as Of the Hook. GREAT addition to the North Hills.

I worked at one in Lebo in college. Good casual night out with a date type of place. A little back patio, do the lights above, pretty nice ambience. They were Byob at the time, think that has changed. One in Lebo built some sort of wine/studio in back, not sure what you would call it. Owner is a good dude, his old man is a clown though. Wish him luck.

I wish there would be some branch of Everyday Noodles, Chengdu Gourmet or one of Deshantz's eateries (Meat & Potatoes, etc...) or Justin Severino's places (Cure and Morcilla). A ****ing great Pho place in the North Hills would be nice.

I hate to rain on anyone's parade but If you an ill pizzaiolo is gonna increase the dining experience that much, I feel bad for warrendale. Of course, options in south hills sucks too... I am looking forward to California pizza and steel cactus in bethel park so I probably have no room to speak.

Exactly. We are just looking for options. The whole Warrendale area was literally somewhat of an epicurian wasteland for years, which is odd given the real estate values. Honestly - we were just happy with landing an actual higher-end movie theater development.

I joke with my because Duncan avenue is like an invisible wall where she won't go anywhere north from this point. She prefers going to the city to dine.

If anyone gets to Sewickley you have to try CoCothe' . Small restaurant with very good food BYOB.

I grew up a few blocks from the original il Pizzaiolo and I like it but it's nothing amazing. It's just rock solid yuppie pizza.

Personally, I like their ravioli the best. It is not a go to establishment - it is more of a change of pace type of place (especially in the summer).

South hills isn't much better, with dining options at least. Some of these smaller breweries popping up are nice though

Going into the space vacated by Tamari. We used to complain about no decent Pizza in Wexford.....now have several good places. Warning: Local places that expand usually don't replicate their original success.....or quality.

I actually prefer their pasta. But you're right about expansion. Do you have any idea when it's opening?

Thanks for the rec. Going to make reservations. Love BYOB's.

(Edit: Just made reservations for next weekend!)

Opposite end, in the place Tamari used to occupy. Not open yet but close.
Good rule of thumb: never eat at a restaurant in a strip mall. Corollary: try to do as little business as possible in strip malls. Additional corollary: avoid chain or any other multi-location restaurants as much as possible.

Tune in for next week's installment: don't drink any brand of coffee you can buy at an airport.

Still under construction...Dumpster outside was full. Tamari had some decent food, but the decor was sorta forced "cool". My guess is that the new place is at least a month awat...maybe Memorial Day??
With all the new housing around that intersection, good restaurants should do well. $2K rent means yuppies, not geezers. No 4:00 PM, smaller-portion "specials".

Nothing is worse than the AK Valley. There are pizza joints, and bars with seasoned whole wings, and Italian red sauce joints. Oh, and pizza joints. And bars with seasoned wings and fish sammich. And Italian red sauce joints. And.........that is about it. Oh, and the occasional Chinese restaurant that has all the taste and authenticity of La Choy from the frozen food section in Giant Iggle. An' at.

Grieco's Carefree Inn was good the last time I went, but that was about 15 years ago.

There is a fantastic restaurant in a small little town up there. Little restaurant part of an old style hotel. Cool little town, almost like a little lakeside town you'd find in Michigan. Fantastic food. I want to say saxonburg hotel but it could be something else. Really old style place but in a good way

Amen.

Having worked in the A-K Valley for a few years now I can definitely agree with you that it is it's very own place in a number of ways.

In good ways and in some bad ways, it is unlike any other enclave in Western Pennsylvania.

I have yet to find a truly outstanding pizza place.

Whoa I disagree......J&S PIzza is pretty damn good. And the uniqueness of Philippi's (old P&M) is an either love or hate, but nostalgic. We got decent pizza here. What we don't have is pretty much anything else but EYEtalian. Even Oakmont, against Hoffstots and Café Monaco are decent, respectable Italian American spots. The Mighty Oak Barrel was decent, have been there since they were sold.

You want really, like Goodfellas Italian, with about the same ambiance, The Villa in Cadogan is legendary. And the Capri in Natrona Heights is good and price reasonable. But again, they are all Italian, and the problem is, my mom's sauce and ravioli, meatballs, is as good as any, so I don't need to go to another Italian joint.

Saxonburg Hotel. Used to be fantastic. Now? Just meh.

The Villa was Manarino's hangout from what I was told. Deep mafia ties back in the day.

That is when the AK Valley was great. New Ken was a great town when the Mannerino's were running it. Lots of things to do, unfortunately before my time, but even I got to experience the after hours "St. A's" in New Ken? Now, New Ken might as well be Duquesne or Clairton. Without the football talent.

Fairly new to the area where is there good pizza in Warrandale, Cranberry area?
Thanks

We go to The Oven in the Village of Pine, Cenci's on Rt. 19, and sometimes to Aviva, at 19 & the Red Belt.

If it's takeout, we use the Oven. Eat-in at the others. (A lot of pizzas don't travel well. Anthony's in Cranberry, on 228, is OK, pretty expensive. Forget the test. Just our preferences.

I can't believe that there aren't more of those types of places directly outside of the city, with all of the great diversity of the region.

Monticello's - Deep Dish or Traditional is good.
Monte Cello's on 19 North past the Walmart is pretty good (not wood fired). We get delivery from Pomodoro's on Brandt School Road. Since it sounds like you will be close, if you like wood fired, Il Pizzaiolo is pretty good too whenever it opens. (If you want a nice meal - a bit pricey, but good - try Off the Hook. Bella Frutteto on Brandt School Rd and Rt 910 is also very good for a meal out.)

The Wexford/Warrendale/Cranberry area is basically white utopia...Any big box store or chain restaurant you can imagine, and pretty little sidewalks along every street (strictly for display; the area is not walkable by any stretch of the imagination, and any alternative transportation, including bike or public bus, is strictly prohibited). And no one between the ages of 18-36 really exists, you are either a child or you have a child(ren).

Essentially what I'm trying to say is that I loathe the North Hills.

LOL. That's pretty good.

Don't get me wrong, I get it...When you are 45 and you have a spouse and 2.5 kids, you want an acre of land and a good school district. But until then, give me bars and coffee shops within walking distance, public transportation, and a >0% chance of being stabbed every time I step outside. I will put off the suburban exodus for as long as my future wife will allow.

Burnie - of course you loath it. Anyone not married would feel very out of place up here for the most part.

I can promise you though that there will come a day - wife, mortgage, bills, kids and you'll fall into suburbia. Brace yourself.
