OT - Jalen Johnson shutting it down

This is why the charade should stop. Just let the NBA finance their own developmental league. Coach K gets his $9,000,000 year to recruit guys to play student for one semester. It's a joke.
Isn’t that what the G League is?

I reckon so. I just think it is such crap that these coaches are talked about like they are such teachers, and so concerned about the education of players, all while recruiting guys they know will only be in a classroom for one semester.

One and done is silly enough, but the idea that they'll just leave whenever it's convenient makes this all a little silly......

I don't mind kids leaving early (though it doesn't show much character to quit on a losing team). But they should have to repay the school their scholarship for the year they bailed on.

The schools recruit these kids knowing full well what their intentions are . Find me a school who wouldn’t take a kid like Jalen Johnson that wants to compete ! Why penalize a kid for a system that’s broken .

Dukes not winning the national championship this yr and he’s been limited do to injury , so why risk your future which has a lot of zeros in it ?

Until COVID-19 is under control how could you blame anyone from deciding to shut it down .

And yet you can't figure out why there is a really good chance that Justin Champagnie turns pro at the end of the year.
What you and your cohorts just don’t seem to understand is that I don’t believe he’s NBA material at this point in his career . Just because he’s rebounding and scoring at the collegiate level doesn’t necessarily mean he can do at the next level . He’s a 6’5-6” guy who can’t play defense against college level guys and let’s see how his inside scoring and rebounding holds up against the 6-10 -7 ‘ freakish athletes in the NBA . While his shooting has improved he’s not a knock down shooter at the college distance let alone at the NBAs and he doesn’t really create his own offense . If he needs surgery on his knee that doesn’t help his cause either . Doesn’t sound like a guy who if I’m a GM in the NBA that I’m throwing any guaranteed money at .

He doesn’t have the freakiest size and athletic ability that Adams had and he’s not 6’9” with NBA 3 pt range as Cam was and is . If you want to compare him to Brad W , lets not forget he was a four yr man at Pitt . ( Cam took the 5 yr plan )

Now if he wants to play in the D league and earn 35k and travel by buses or play overseas I’m sure that avenue exists for him .

Unless he’s not enjoying his college experience I’d stay and work on the areas of his game he needs to improve upon while starring at Pitt .

Jalen Johnson and JC are two entirely different situations. I do hope you realize that .

Don’t misunderstand me Justin has had a great season and has improved tremendously so far and if he was 6’8/9” I’d like to be his agent , but he’s not .

ps ..any college athlete that can get paid real money , not 35k , should take the money .

One of the reasons I respect Calipari. He says that his job, just like others at the university, is to prepare his kids for their career. And his player's career is professional basketball.

It's time Universities stopped the sham, and just give these kids credits for all the time they play, and let them graduate with a degree in basketball. No sham, just the truth. It doesn't cheapen the university degree like the current system does, and players don't have to lie about what they do in the classroom.

I would love to see what his fall schedule was to ensure he had passing grades into this semester. Guessing he hasn't taken a class or done a bit of homework since the start of this semester. it is a complete joke to associate these types to a college.

If you think college is actually difficult - particularly under grad - you’re mistaken

Then all of college athletics is a fraud .

the graduation rates of athletes tell a different story. so do the stats on students playing a year and leaving.

if you applied to duke and in your letter/application stated you would only stay a year and have no intention of graduating would they accept you with perfect SAT scores and graduating firat in your h.s. class? no they wouldnt

88% graduate.

.

so-say if Duke men’s basketball has a gsr of 100% for the last 5 years in this data base-
Your opinion that coach k is a fraud would look really stupid - right ?

whoops

And what you can't seem to fathom is that Champagnie and the teams in the NBA don't care whether or not you think he's NBA material at this point in his career.

Like I said before, some people simply cannot separate what they want to happen from what is likely to happen.

For anyone
Whoops
so that leaves out the half dozen programs that leave.

remember you implied kids dont graduate from d1 sports and all athletics are a feaud because they all come in with no intention of graduating and at 88% they clearly do.

No
I implied your opinion on k was stupid
Because it is
Athletes aren’t taking hard classes in any semester
You can’t use the 88% stat as legit and ignore duke’s 100%

my original message was the one and done crowd is dumb and coach k is part of it. you doubled down saying none of these kids intend on graduating which the numbers dont shows
glad he has 100% grad rate excluding 1 and dones but it doesnt exclude him from being part of the dumb 1 and done crowd. nor does "everyone do it" as yoi suggest

You’re confused because your own evidence destroyed your own point

You know I never thought for a minute they’d call me for my scouting report . Have they talked to you or bbinsider ?

I’m so sorry for you that you can’t accept that someone can actually have an opinion that’s different than yours .

I have no dog in this fight , I hope he’s a lottery pick and he becomes a star .

The problem isn't that you have a different opinion than I do. The problem is that you think that your opinion is the way things ought to be and can't understand why someone else might have a different opinion, let alone why your opinion could even theoretically be wrong.

As I said, the difference is that I can separate what I want to happen, Champagnie stays for another year, with what is most likely to happen, Champagnie turns pro. And you can't.
