I know its way early in the season, but this guy looks like he is for real!

In the back of my mind, I assume he will get hurt or have some weird disease that will sideline him. But that is my programming.

Anyway, looks like he could be a true number 1 pitcher. A possible staff Ace! Enjoy him people while he is here! Now if only we could get a couple more of them.

Taillon has better stuff than Cole in my opinion. Taillon is much more efficient with his pitches. He throws strikes. Cole on the other hand, throws up to 60 pitches by the end of the third inning. He can't go deep into games. By the 6th inning, he's done... Liriano was another pitcher that did the same thing.

Nova is also very efficient with his pitches as well.

If I'm the Pirates and he keeps pitching at a high level, I'm locking him up to a big contract before Cole.

No way you lock him up to a big contract at all. He will be making pennies on the dollar the next two years on top of that he is a free agent in 2023, by that time he will be 31. No reason to lock yourself into a contract with his injury history. However he is sure fun to watch pitch and the sky is the limit for him.

I said this a year ago, I said it a year before that, for as good of stuff that Cole has, he doesn't miss many bats. So he gets into high pitch counts many times.

He has certainly had his share of Pirate-esque set-backs and delays, so this the breakthrough what we had hoped to have seen 2-3 years ago.

Nick Kingham is following a similar path of painful setbacks to MLB.

Glasnow outshined both with his gaudy minor league numbers and got a lot of the attention of fans, but I think most people saw the ceiling being higher for Taillon and Kingham.

It's looking like Cole should have taken the contract the Bucs offered last year when they offered to buy his arbitration plus 2 years of free agency. Unless he finds his consistency his worth will be down when he hits free agency. Of course by down I'm talking 15 mil per.

Location. It's a problem he has to overcome. The best stuff in the world is hittable in the wrong spots.

I think that's exactly backwards. Most people think that Glasnow has the much higher ceiling, but that Taillon and Kingham were much more likely to get to their ceilings. Glasnow is the classic high risk, high reward guy. If all three of them reach their peaks Glasnow will be the best of the three, but Glasnow is also the least likely of the three to reach his peak.

I was hoping he already had his issues with tommy john surgery followed by hernia that kept him oiut basically two seasons.

Our Scott Boras clients do not seem to pan out well. Cole, Alvarez.
Two years ago Cole was very good. Last year full of injuries. His issue is his mind. Gets angry too easily. Taillon seems to have it between the ears, stays cool with cold stare and likes the challenge.

Pretty good today; gave up 2 solo dingers.
But after 6 innings was at 90 and his day was over. You nailed it.

Three in a row 2-1 Ls
Dang.

He pitched well today. Cole is a good pitcher, but he's not a "number one" or "an ace". He's certainly isn't as good as Boros thinks he is... He's got great stuff but as another poster said, the problem is in between his ears. He needs to rely on his stuff and throw strikes.
