Nothing much new, but, this statement really stuck out to me:

"...to then allow Jerry Sandusky to start a statewide charity to be around children while he supposedly knew this, it goes completely counter to the way the guy lived his entire life."

Anyone else catch the verb ALLOW? Sandusky couldn't do what he wanted without Paterno "allowing" him? LOL. Flies in the face of the argument that Paterno didn't rule with an iron fist. The guy controlled and knew everything.

I'm also getting pretty sick of them using the "Joe I knew" line as evidence that he wasn't guilty. Jay says "it goes completely counter to the way the guy lived his entire life." Perhaps Jay only saw what JoePa wanted him to see...

The people that knew Jeffrey Dahmer thought he was a nice young man.

To think that the people you see on the surface is all that they are is just ridiculous. Everyone has secrets. Just some worse than others.

That argument holds NO validity.

Nope, he only knew about and controlled the good things. Everything else he was completely in the dark about.

I have no problem with JayPa defending his dad..What else is going to do???
Of course, its not surprising that Jay is defending his dad. Its not that different from Dottie defending her husband Jerry. Both are really sad, but understandable.

But why anyone would put any stock in what either is saying is beyond me.

Former friend's sister was a university security guard at PSU. She was told that under no circumstance was she to contact state college police unless she first notified Joe Paterno. FOR ANY INFRACTION REQUIRING POLICE. He ran the place. Now you see incidents of crime coming out in the papers as is normal at any school . Why? No Joe choke hold on bad press.

As I posted on another thread..... You can see the following scenario being player out:

Sue comes in and asks him what the heck is going on, after McQueary came over shaken up with his dad.

Sue: "Joe, what the heck is going on?"
Joe: "I told you never to ask me about the family business!"
Sue: "But Mike was upset, saying nasty things about Jerry."
Joe: "Just this one time, I will allow you to ask me about the family business."
Sue: "Joe, has Jerry been abusing little kids again?"
Joe: "No."

Same thing with Jay and Scott. As Michael said when asked about his father: 'he's just a businessman'

Michael: My father is no different than any powerful man, any man with power, like a president or senator.

Kay Adams: Do you know how naive you sound, Michael? Presidents and senators don't have men killed.

Michael: Oh. Who's being naive, Kay?

I disagree, if my dad covered up kids being raped, I would be the first to want him in jail. Disgusting

Some of you all would overlook the sins of rape, cause it was your dad involved, is disturbing, but in this day and age and generation, it doesn't surprise me one bit

Drama much? No one is talking about covering up for rape. The point is that we would think only the best about our parents. Jay was a child when this started. He's guilty of being blinded by loyalty but I don't think he's guilty of covering up any rapes.

I don't know. If my father did something inappropriate I wouldn't make excused for him.

Years ago, I had a bartender who worked at a well known State College watering hole tell me the same thing: if there were problems with drunk football players, never call the police. Call Joe instead. (The bartender told me that he was given Joe's number shortly after he was hired.)

I lost track of Jay…..where is this football genius coaching at currently?
Probably still cashing-in on being the son of a heralded football coach. He wrote a book...about his dad. He's been involved with Paterno Beer - named after....his dad. He makes talk show appearances to talk about...his dad.

Honestly, the guy needs a life away from being a Paterno. It probably has similarities with being a Kardashian.

FWIW, I have friends who know him well, and they claim that he's a genuinely nice guy.

He should make card board cut outs of himself too to stand in the shadow of the JoePa cardboard cut outs.

Yeah that was pretty well known. It as he grew older, they started to lose, and the advent of social media when all of a sudden all of these incidents would come to light, prompting ESPN's Outside the Lines expose. He was not used to the media getting ahold of these reports and if you can remember that interview, he was really pissed, almost demonic and evil.

I cannot even find a clip of it, because if you search on You Tube, all you get is the voluminous Sandusky Scandal content.

The image still in my mind is Jay Paterno on the sidelines on TV waving the Nitter towel in the air trying to juice up the Nitter fans.
What a clown!

Gentlemen, even the lowly basketball program at PSU has/had people to clean up messes. That's not exactly a secret in Happy Valley nor is the fact that nobody handled a football player without Joe's blessing.

I attended a funeral for a "handler" that was in fact, a friend, a few months ago. During the service, several folks reminisced about the time this player was bailed out or embarrassing pictures were recovered or the police were sent on their way.

No clue what happens anywhere else but I watched this stuff go down first hand up there.

Bingo!

Yes, I said that its understandable that someone would defend family. I didn't say it was right to do so under these circumstances, only that I get that people are prone to do so.

I see that point. I just think they all, fans and family, crossed the line now, defending that accomplice

Nitter U and nitter football definitely have the State College police in their back pocket.
If PITT football went away there'd be little impact on city services such as the police.
If Nitter football went away Barnie Fife and his deputies could take over in State College.
Nitter football drives that town and they allllllll know it!
My wife worked as a contractor on a Nitter U social services project for six months in State College. She stayed there 4 days a week and learned a lot about how the place runs.
Nitter football was King in town.

I'll tell you, one thing that has surprised me about this now four year-old (or is it forty) tragedy is how few stories there have been about Paterno's iron grip on his program and the Center County region.
Here's one:
Thirty years ago a retired state police officer, a guy with absolutely no ax to grind, related how he and fellow officers stood by as UPS players flushed weed down toilets rather than arrest them. This was done under the authority of Paterno. He related the story, not as a condemnation but rather with resignation regarding the power of The Man.
I'm sure there are hundreds of similar stories and examples. Yet somehow there is disbelief that he was unaware of the Jer-Bear.
Blind allegiance. Another example.

You nailed it, the Best Way for Jay to Honor His Father's legacy is go coach somewhere but so far he prefers Lawsuits over Coaching Headsets?

As most posted above, Jay should defend his Father and Family and nothing wrong about the Joe's Accomplishments of Autumn, but quit blaming the Media, NCAA, and Penn State for reporting what happen to children at Penn State and when it happen.

I am no problem with anyone continuing the Lawsuits to seek full Transparency but that Transparency is a Two Edge Sword one being what Jay and the family are trying to recover in Court and another that required many Penn State Athletic Reforms in 2012 under NCAA Oversight Monitor that proved Penn State Football was not in full Compliance?

As more comes out, like the 1976 Settlement, the Paterno Era Legacy is not being reversed but more tainted, and that is being caused by the Lawsuits still going on and I still respect and admire Joe's Coaching, but Jay can ad to his father's legacy in a far better way by becoming a Head Coach, anywhere. Deeds always beat Slogans!

Cap'n, I'm not sure Jay has had much choice given his lack of coaching......opportunities?

Yet I know a former University of PGH police officer who likes to brag that Ironhead was the last arrest he ever made.

It's probably true, back in those days they'd cover up MINOR CRAP, like when I watched Bill Fralic turn some kids face into bloody pulp in an Oakland bar, then get dragged away by police in an incident that made ZERO NEWS and lead to no suspensions! Ah...I miss those days. I hate the modern times. GIVE ME THE GOOD OLD (boys) DAYS!

The media also wasn't interested in exposing this stuff back then. They would stop getting answers in interviews and there was never any cell phone videos so there was little incentive to expose it.

Of course that didn't stop the rumors. Ask Dan Marino. That's probably the key point here. If there was enough smoke on Fralic, you'd have read about it. That's why Ironhead always made the papers. The guy was always in trouble. You pretty much read about anything major that was happening at Pitt and that has a lot to do with the "reputation". That's why Nitters always throw that stuff up. It was out there. They like to dismiss any allegations of Joe just taking care of things as somewhat minor or untrue because everything was so hush, hush. Heck, it's even an admirable quality in their eyes.

I wouldn't know about such things.

My dad never got into such crapola...he was too busy working two (and sometimes three) jobs to put food on the table and to get his kids thru school. He was a WWII vet, too; I never had to apologize for him.

I never even tried drugs (OK, not including Marijuana) out of respect for my dad, I could never disappoint him like that. I guess a different generation

Alex Van Pelt. Perfect example, remember the fight he got into? I knew AVP, and remember what he told the media. "Hey, I am 21 years old, I am allowed to have a beer, I am there with friends eating wings and having some beers and some guy keeps on trying to buy me a drink and I turn him down. He continues to harass, so I leave. As I leave, he confronts me. I tried repeatedly to walk away, and I couldn't."

But that played locally and in the papers and news. That would have never seen the light of day up at State College, and honestly nor should have it seen the light of day here. But it shows the difference in spotlight (yes, pun intended) between the two programs.
