Now, the biggest opening weekend in the history of North American box office. Such being, I assume more than a handful 'round these forums absorbed it. Thoughts?
Really? I knew it broke the record for biggest worldwide opening, but I thought "The Avenger's" was still the top grossing opening weekend movie in the US. That would be amazing. Haven't seen it yet but going this weekend. HUGE fan of Chris Pratt so I imagine I'll like it.Now, the biggest opening weekend in the history of North American box office. Well, pittgirl, it's Inside Out for yours truly this weekend. Reading it's Pixar's return to form. Studio had a hell of run with Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up and Toy Story 3 back to back to back to back. Then came Cars 2, Brave and Monsters U... All of which were pretty damn forgettable albeit beautifully animated. I'd even venture to Brave is more compelling and empowering to women than the woefully misguided Frozen. Catchy, fun but really a mess of movie with animation that sub-par by today's standards to boot.
Jurassic World's something of an oddity. Big, loud, gleefully 'B' and egregiously dumb in an endearing sort of way. It's like Gremlins 2 spliced with Piranha 3D with a fistful of genomes from Jurassic Park to complete the movie's DNA. It's spectacle drenched in nostalgia. Good for the soul, bad for the brain. Fun enough and delivers the dino carnage we've been waiting for since park almost opened back in '93. I'd give it B-/B.
I'll likely wait for RedBox for the Earl and Love/Mercy. But, definitely looking forward to both. Sometimes, I'll bypass something in theaters just to give me more RedBox options months later.I think it's going to be a big movie weekend for us too. JP, Inside/Out AND Me, Earl and the Dying Girl. I'm also dying to see the Beach Boy's movie.
