OT: Local Restuarant and Dish that you come back for

Girasole--Shadyside. Anything on the menu, but they will also do up an outstanding spaghetti with anchovies, oil, and garlic.

Had a holiday lunch there. The food was amazing. I was almost full by the time my meal got there. Escarole and beans with sausage then fresh potato gnocchi. That hit the spot.

Where are you coming from that new castle is on the way to the game?

My parents like that place
The Shenango Valley in Mercer County, 15-20 miles north of New Castle.

Do your parents have a favorite item or two on the menu? I think we are going to stop there for dinner after the NC State game next Saturday.

Still have never had a tessaros burger. I might be the only person in the city to not have experienced a tessaro burger. I’m ashamed of myself.
It’s pretty darned good.
That’s my review.
I got the breakfast burger because I can’t help but order anything with a runny egg on .

Table next to us go the ribs and they looked ridiculous

I discovered by accident this restaurant called Palate near New Castle on the way to the game today. Check it out...DELICIOUS! It is a farm to table restaurant.

HOF, lotsa good food in NC. Mary's and Nahla's for Syrian. Lamb is out of sight. Many Italian places good, and also many great wing places. Been to them all lol. Went to hoops game up north, and stopped at Thelma's in Sharpsville. Fish dinner was great. Been there?

If you want great Italian try Alla Famiglia on Warrington Ave. You won't be sorry

And for those "that know", they also have great Gluten Free options as well.

This was a great post until you got to the Gluten Free options?

I bet they have Free Range Pasta and Free Range Meatballs as well.

The millennials will buy that one hook line and sinker!

Good marketing ploy.

BEST cinnamon rolls ever for brunch. Literally to die for.
Not unless those rolls have raisin, not nuts. Had some in Philly a week ago....my fav as a kid......even more than dinosaur eggs.

Vastly over-rated. Save the time & $$$. Five Guys.
There’s a small place inside a bar in highland park called Applewood which are better.
But I have Absolutely no regrets eating dinner at tessaro’s.

My son loves five guys(though he only gets the hotdog) and for the cost is really good .

Souf would debate a Rock as long as it boosted his post count???
Someone just compared five guys to tessaros. I’d rather go to Wendy’s than five guys. They serve food in a bag and there is so much grease, the bag breaks.

Five guys has no place in this thread.

Beto's Pizza. Not trying to start a pizza war of who has the best. Simply put, it is a style of pizza that you can't get anywhere else, hence a big part of the attraction and a necessary stop everytime i'm back in Pittsburgh.

I hear you...I only mentioned it because my son, who as avid pasta lover, has a gluten allergy. Finding a decent gluten free pasta is impossible. They have a good option. I tasted it...is it as good as "normal" pasta, of course not, but it still needs to be said

I'm not posting this to argue about pizza or Betos....I may be the only one who writes this, but I just can't do the cold topping thing. It doesn't taste right to me...almost like the pizza isn't cooked. You're not wrong, because most everyone I know also loves Betos - it just doesn't do it for me

I’m with you. It’s not good. No clue why people like this. I love pizza, basically any pizza is good. I don’t care if it’s oven pizza for 3 dollars at giant eagle, I love it all. Thin, thick, Chicago, ny, gourmet, brick oven. I don’t care. I love it all.

Betos sucks.

Hmmmmm.......don't think they have either. All I know is they come to your table fresh from the oven in a cast iron pan, dripping with icing.

Yeah. I have to partially concur. Tessaros is just Ok. But Five Guys? Ugh. Wendy's is better. Anyway, the best burger in the burg I probably experienced was a place sadly gone now, the Starwood lounge that was behind a tire shop near North Hills Village.

For now, Id have to say a Fathead's three pepper burger would be my go to. But ask for honey mustard on the side, and pour it over, with a few of their awesome fries on top...mmmmmm....

No atmosphere, but Claudio's Restaurante in upper st clairvoyant has great gnocchi, chicken parm and the bread is worth the trip in itself. Used to own Abruzzis on the South Side.

Fatheads doesn’t get enough love. Their burgers are great. You are right about five guys. I’d take a baconator over a five guys any day.

Do all the uncle sam's have the italian sausage? I'll have to check the one in Fox Chapel and give it a shot. I normally stick to the cheese steak at lunch and then bathroom an hour later.
Ha. Many years ago when lunch was at Sam's it meant Hillman restroom before afternoon class.

I let myself have a cheat day or meal every week, depending on how the week went. This would definitely fall into the cheat meal that equals a normal cheat day lol. Those things are deadly.
I'm convinced this is imperative for successful dieting/weight loss. The secret is getting right back on the wagon and not fall back into bad habits. Requires discipline, but without it, a super strict diet is so boring/restrictive that most people are doomed to failure after a time.

Old habits/bad habits are so hard to break, but the older we get I think we get more health conscious because we're running out of time and want to squeeze every last drop out of the lemon!

A long time ago, we went there with another couple.....it was July....95 that day in a club event. We walked into the place....and they had a fire going in the middle of the room. Crazy. Never ate there.

Just like to put in a plug for the 7th Street Cafe....BEFORE Tambellini $$ got there. Franco started the fried zucchini craze right there. I had an account there in the 1970's. Once took a pal from Philly there, we shared a zuke app....then another....had veal Romano for dinner, then ordered more zucchini instead of dessert. I've never had that dish anywhere done that perfectly. Tried Pizzaioli in Market Square last night...it sucked. Truly a Burgh treasure.

A favorite spot of mine as well. Started out like you with the zucchini and veal Romano. Eventually moved off the veal Romano, coating too much like the zucchini

Oh man, thanks. I have been looking for some great Pho and spring rolls around here. Cleveland has some good places, but haven't really found a really good local place. I may have to try this out next week.
Yes Trams is Really Good. Down Penn Ave a few more blocks Pho Minh is also very good.

100% agree. I lucked into finding a great trainer and he and I go round and round about this.

I have to live my life and if that means I go out to dinner and share a bottle (or two!) of wine, so be it. The rest of the time I'm trying as hard as I can to hold off my old age. LOL.

Plus it should never be called a diet but a good daily nutrition plan. When you think "diet" it screams short term.

If you ask him to bake the cold toppings on top of the pizza, they will.

Again-
Take it up with this guy
I agree, if you want a greasy $ 5 fast food quality cheeseburger, just go thru a Wendy’s drive thru instead of doing a 5 guys. If you want a sit down restaurant experience, go to an actual restaurant.

5 guys, you pay for restaurant experience and get the fast food product. Just go to a fast food place.

Buffy doesn’t believe gluten allergies exist. You know that. It’s another facet of the great liberal fake news plot to make Americans into a bunch of sissies. You and your wife are just a couple of snowflakes hell bent on wussifying your son. You probably made the poor kid wear a winter coat last week too.
