1) During a recent show, The Fan's Josh Taylor was kvetching about criticism of him by one or more media colleagues. He was pretty angry and said that he outhustled eveyrone else in the market, does whatever he is asked to do, doesn't mail it in like others in the business. I listened in mid-rant and don't know if he named anyone specifically. Anybody catch that? I like Taylor; he works hard. And aside from too much rah-rah for Duquesne, he's a fresh, frank voice. And not a Nitter.

2) Speaking of Nitters, Paul Alexander subbed for Josh on a recent Sunday, Normally the guest host acknowledges the regular host's program, but Alexander referred to it as "The Paul Alexander Show". A small thing, but a breach of radio etiquette. I wonder if Taylor was referring to Alexander? Didn't Alexander get booted from The Fan originally because he did not prepare, he just winged it?

3) Saturday afternoon Alexander did his own show. Alexander is about my age and so his recollections have relevance to a dinosaur like me, but child PLEASE did he go overboard with orgasmic praise of the PSU White Out in store for Michigan. This line: "Penn State is a special place. The White Out is special. Pitt fans know it, too. And if they have a problem with that, it's on them."

Pitt's flagship station, waving the blue-and-white banner.

i don't even know who josh taylor is? When is he on?

Alexander is a psu guy but i think he's actually a pitt fan too, always seems pretty optimistic about pitt. but i missed that comment about the white out and him bringing up pitt fans does seem unnecessary.

Well this fawning over "the White Out" is a bit much. Every year PSU is going to play Michigan or Ohio State at home. When those teams meet up, it represents 2 of the 5 biggest college football fanbases. So it will always be an ABC, and always in prime time to max this. And in most cases, either one will be ranked in the top 10, and PSU will also be ranked. So......that's it. Next year, whenever in October they play, ABC will televise Ohio State at Penn State. It will be their designated "white out" game. My god, let's be orgasmic at the anticipation.

Josh Taylor is a regular on one of the nightly call-in Tv shows as well as the Sunday morning host on The Fan. He is a Duquesne grad, does a lot of DU play by play and some HS sports. An everyman...... Alex is pretty fair to Pitt on the whole. Like many here I am overly sensitive about a perceived bias toward the Evil Empire.

Nitters act like they invented school spirit, tailgating and coordinated fan apparel.

I've met Paul Alexander a bunch of times. Seems like a great guy and bigger Pitt fan than PSU but enjoys both. Maybe "fan" isn't the best word for it. He wasn't fired for no prep. He was blackballed because he flatly refused to chase ratings by trolling the listeners.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said. I don't like hearing it but every word was true. What was the context? Even if true, he's a bit more low key than that. Maybe he was defensive because stupid Pitt fans were calling him a nitter?

Remember, he was among the first and loudest voices condemning PSU and Joepa after the scandals broke and he lost his job because of it. Now he's trying to make a living here and there's always some idiot Pitt fan calling who gets triggered by anything PSU blaming him for spending time in HV.

Nobody trolled him during the show. And, in fact, his segment about the PSU-UM game was just one small part of his show. He had a guest sportswriter who was bouncing between Syracuse to State College and they previewed the game. What touched off the Happy Valley talk was a caller from WV who said he would spend Bye Sunday watching "his" Seahawks because his favorite player back in the day was WV and PSU's own Curt Warner, RB. So Paul recalled being a student during that era of the first Nitter national championship and the blue and white nostalgia bubbled over.

I was taken aback when he left The Fan because he was unlike the stooges on that station. I'm glad he's back, regardless of his pedigree, because he brings a perspective over a long period of Pittsburgh sports. Still would like to know what got under Taylor's butt.

I think he was booted due to a dui after golfing...
