OT: Need some help quickly with scheduling a cruise....

My comment was tongue in cheek. I could care less about someone else's economic circumstance nor would I fit in the 1%. Obviously, some of the posts in this tread reveal the insecurities of others. Not unusual, there are always others who cannot help finding that other people's job, economic circumstance, success etc are due to some unfair circumstance. I generally find the people in better economic circumstance have come by their wealth through hard work, risk taking etc-- and typically deserve their status. One thing I have been successful at is keeping these "other people" (constant complainers) out of my life (they are depressing creatures).

Be careful about catching a virus. My co worker who loves to go on cruises ALWAYS gets sick when she comes back from picking something up there. She's 4 for 4. But yet she still goes......that's dedication...

I know of some cruise opportunities. How good is your grandma at chip and paint? :)

Full disclosure: I have never taken a cruise in my life. I honestly have no interest even though those boats look fabulous. Anyways, I am trying to schedule a cruise for my 88 year old mom and my 2 sons (both in their 20's). They are totally committed to taking care of her. She is in relatively good health, however getting around is not very easy anymore. Anyways, I need to put this together for the first week of May if I can, so I desperately need some help quickly. They can't go for longer than 7 days and as long as we can get flights, departure location can be anywhere. The price point isn't unlimited, but money isn't a huge issue. A friend recommended Royal Caribbean? HELP.
Should you board on the Pacific Princess and mom needs a little "pick me up" (if you know what I mean) see Julie, the cruise directory. Tell her Sniffy from PA sent ya and she'll hook ya up.

Had 3 cruises on Royal Caribbean, loved every one of them. That would be my choice for Mom to relax and enjoy shows and shore excursions.

looks like some posts were deleted, was it really that offensive? bunch of babies

no problem with the "1% club" but if you are going to brag about it CONSTANTLY don't cry when you get called out for bragging

you mentioned insecurity, bragging is as insecure as it gets
If acknowledging a parent is going to die soon and wants to go away with their grandkids is bragging, than so be it.

i just thought this was a strange place to ask about cruise information

it's not like the internet is lacking info on cruises and a pitt football forum is the best place to get it

sorry about your mom, 88 is a full life most don't make it that far

Hence the OT before the post. There are frequent OT threads here. I've found the members here have some of the best information about a lot of different subjects.

I took it as a sign of respect as you intended to get some input but some chose to Blog banter and that happens on all Boards. I would like to know what you chose and how it all went too. Good luck and that is what life is all about family and friends getting together.

Good Luck and it will be the family that makes it so nice not bloggers!

Go to VACATIONS TO GO website and look there.

http://vacationstogo.com/ - then click on the "90 Day ticker" for the absolute lowest prices.

The best are now out of NYC because Baltimore's harbor gangway is being repaired.

FYI - the closer you get to a sailing date the cheaper the cruise is because the ship's overhead costs are fixed and they want bodies in the cabins for booze and gambling spending - so they will almost give you a cruise for free if you can remain very flexible on the dates.

For instance here is a Norwegian Cruise line (the best in the business) trip from Bayonne, NJ to the Bahamas for 7 days for about $1,000 Balcony (BTW - you have to get a balcony for anything longer than 3 days or you go stir crazy). However, if you check back to this cruise every day it will get cheaper as the April 30 departure date rolls around.

I know all this because I had a team of 20 Coast Guard Marine Inspectors working for me out of Baltimore and we inspected every ship built anywhere in the world that would ever take US passengers in the future - so I know the Industry pretty well.

Good luck and do everything you wouldn't normally do - see the even weird shows, gamble and have fun...

I've been on Celebrity and Disney cruises. Both were good, but Disney was outstanding. Disney's probably not the best value proposition if you're not entertaining kids.

Go to Disney World instead. She will feel like a kid again and the grandkids will love it.

Good luck with the trip @pitt-girl and awesome of your kids to be so dedicated to their grandmother to do the trip.

I have never understood the allure of cruise ships, if you have a healthy budget. If money is tight, it seems like it could be a really good option. However, it sounds like this might be more of a focus on bucket list sight seeing, so checking off several islands/countries in one ship is one of the goals. I'd worry about mobility on and on/off the boat, though.

Check out Bliss cruise packages.

I take my wife every year. Or you can never go wrong with Hedo II.
