Drew Maggi and I are cousins.

His great-grandfather and my grandmother were brother and sister.

Pompelio Maggi.... his great-great-grandfather (and my great-grandfather) came to America in 1909 and settled in Carnegie, PA before moving a couple years later to Eighty-Four, PA.

Pompelio and his wife had 10 kids.... Carl, the oldest, was Drew's great-grandfather. Mary, the 6th of 10, was my grandmother.

Carl's son Eugene moved to Arizona in the 1950s... so that's why Drew grew up in Arizona and went to ASU. But the majority of the Maggi clan stayed in Western PA and dozens of us were at his debut last week against the Dodgers.

I think it is divine providence that Drew made his major league debut just 10 miles from where his great-great-grandfather settled in America 114 years ago.

This past week has been surreal for all of us. Crazy, crazy week.
