like Atlanta....and a Ferris Wheel.

Atlanta most amazing stadium ever....the roof alone is a modern wonder...the scoreboard as well.

Plus the ability to have 75k for Steelers , 45K for Pitt and 1500 for Pro soccer. Perfect.
Think of all the events..

Plus the Ferris Wheel invented by Pitt great halfback Denny Ferris.
Well, I think inventor Ferris had Pgh ties.

Seattle has one
London
Atlanta
LA

North Shore or Soufside — Pgh needs one ....lets do it Bicycle Bill. Build something worthwhile for once.

I just walked under the Atlanta ferris wheel on Wednesday night.

The main thing with these magnificent new stadiums in Dallas, Atlanta, and LA is that the owners are putting in enormous sums of their own money to get them built. I don't think the Rooneys have nearly the cash to contribute that Arthur Blank and Stan Kroenke do.

Well based on the unhinged yinzers on this board and in the comments in the trib and such... the Steelers should outline a deal... county and city will spring for a new Atlanta like palace... and the Rooneys will fire Tomlin and cut AB. What say yinz, haters? :D

One of the stupidest decisions in big city history was NYC building a new stadium and claiming a dome was too expensive.

Consider the $$$$ lost to NYC with no CFB championship Final Four, world cup, etc....

Mind numbing stupid.
100% spot on.

The NY Football Giants are the NFL’s flagship...and they built a dump.

Unbelievable mistake

Perhaps someone can confirm

But a Westinghouse engineer named Ferris invented the Ferris wheel while working in Pitttsburgh?

The Rooneys have plenty. They just like milking the "get it for free" system.

I think, given the trend around the NFL, either the Rooneys bring in more ownership partners or the next Steelers stadium is going to pale in comparison to what you'll see around the league.

Their net worth is 500 mil....towards the bottom of the NFL. Kroenke and Blank have billions. But I agree, why pay when they can try and get it for free.

The real kicker is that Bob Nutting has far more money than the Rooneys.

Would Pittsburgh fans be okay with a dome, well anymore I should say a retractable roof stadium? The more i think about it and how many games I sat in rain or had to prepare for rain last year alone ... PSU, CUSE, DUKE, VIRGINIA, VTECH ( had glimpses), ACC CHAMPIONSHIP. I feel I may be missing one? But I would be all for it.

They should be.

I'd say probably not. I think the large majority of Steeler season ticket holders want to see the players playing in the elements....even if it means they are going to stay at home and watch on tv while they give their tickets to someone else.

Teams with retractable roof stadiums seem to rarely open them and it costs at least an extra $40-50 million. The Vikings nailed the future of domed stadiums with their design.

Isn't there a plan to put a Ferris Wheel in that new blue lagoon entertainment complex if that ever gets built?

Helluva deal with concession prices at the Falcons stadium as well.

Maybe it’s because there’s so many other things to do, but the High Roller wheel in Vegas has been a semi-bust.

Plus an indoor outdoor all year round water park, and a world class roller coaster that people want to ride making the North Shore a family destination spot.
I don't ride rollercoaster but " insane" adrenalin junkies like Mrs Buffett love them and will drive hours to ride a worldclass puker machine.

I see so much investment down in north shore that I just can’t image the stadiums not being a key component of that area in the future.

Businesses, every chain cookie cutter sports bar in the world, condos, parking garages, it just keeps expanding.

Hard to imagine the Steelers pulling out of this area.

They never will.
If they go a lot of the infrastructure on the Northshore will devalue.

We go to all PITT home games and stay only at Northshore hotels.
I book early and get decent rates but if you look at rates now the Northshore hotels are selling rooms for $ 400 / night primarily because of Steeler home games.

When the Steelers and PITT aren't in town those same rooms go for $ 160 per night.

The Steelers are locked in to the Northshore!

The Rooney’s are in for the long con, they’re not going to ask for a new stadium but they’ll demand money for “improvements” every few years. Don’t be shocked when they revamp the upper part of the North end zone section on the taxpayers dime.

The city can tell Rooney no....but they know better. Their ass would be voted out next election. Rooney's run the city, and rightfully so.

They do so now, and will continue to do this for awhile. But ultimately they will want a whole new one. They'll want it on the NS, i agree with that (but might flirt with surrounding counties to drive up leverage). There's no room there so will likely mean playing at Mountaineer field and Beaver Stadium (maybe a London or Mexico City game too) for a year to allow for Heinz to be demolished and a new in its place.

What will Pitt do in that season (or two) ? Yes, indeed, what WILL Pitt do... (the answer likely to be, renting PNC from Nutting for a year... with a number of "neutral site" home games)

Walton Stadium is too small.
Maybe rent out Stambaugh stadium for a year and schedule on games ysu doesn't play?

Yes!

Yes!

A thousand times, YES!

The Jets had a stadium ready to go next to the Javits Center in midtown Manhattan, and it would’ve been perfect – absolutely perfect! Well, tailgating definitely would have been a problem there, but it definitely would’ve worked.

However, politics got in the way and they ended up settling for a shitty facility in the Meadowlands. It was beyond crazy that they allowed that to happen, but they did.

BTW, I think if that did happen, it would’ve had a trickle down effect and we would most likely still be in the Big East.

Ferris wheel invented by George Ferris who was an ancestor of my classmate Denny Ferris.

Ferris wheels are too common. The most novel thing Pittsburgh could do is build a bunch more inclines parallel to each other along Mt Washington, neon colors on the tracks, etc... and "race" them each night. Matched up with corresponding pedestrian access ways over Carson, all leading to Station Square / Sean Miller Fan Field. Maybe even a special spur that runs over to the casino and stadiums (run it up to the WE bridge and attach it). Close off Grandview totally at the top, make it like a carnival thoroughfare for those at the top. In the winter, open air in the summer, closed off clubs in the winter. Really take advantage of our unique topography.

The voters said no for Heinz and it got built anyway
So it’s not the voters who will demand their taxes help billionaires
No it’s the pols they put in blindly and stupidly for decades....

.....once in a while Money better invested elsewhere than spent on riffraff and worthless bicycling paths etc and lining the pockets of Pittsburgh Crooked as can be pols , unions and their cronies.

Pittsburgh invented the FERRIS Wheel

We must have the grandest of them all
Screw the inclines.

Sure build one, that's cool too. But read more city history than the stuff next to the Jumble on the comics page. Pittsburgh was also once the Incline king of the nation. We had them everywhere. Most know only about the two inclines near SS. But at one time there were 17 passenger inclines in service in the Pittsburgh area.

since it's NYC, they still manage to make it work. They hosted a Super Bowl (and got extremely luck on the weather) where no other east cost city without a dome would ever stand a chance. I think the new stadium hosted wrestlemania, not sure on that. But I agree it could have been a lot more
