Does anyone know why the PIAA just about every year schedules the AAA football state playoff game for the wpial winner in Erie vs an Erie team? For example, this year TJ has to play Erie cathedral prep in Erie, which seems to happen every year for the AAA winner. Perhaps it happens for the other classifications as well. You would think there would be a more logical neutral site such as slippery rock, north allegheny, etc., but maybe there is a reason behind their scheduling madness.

It alternates from one year to the next. One year the WPIAL winner is the "home" team, the following year the non-WPIAL team is the "home" team. Last season Central Valley played Conneaut at North Allegheny. This year TJ goes to Erie to play Cathedral Prep. The other divisions work the same way. Last year Pine Richland played State College in Altoona (a D6 school for everything except football). This year Central plays State College at Fox Chapel. And so on.

Perfect explanation. Thanks.

I believe if you check it out the WPIAL hosts the semi-final game every other year. The game is played in the home district of the opponent every other year. This goes for all classes.

for example Clairton will play Berlin from D5 in Davidsville which is in D5. Last year Berlin travelled to somewhere near Clairton to play the bears.

Oh State College is still a District 6 team for football - that's how they walk into state playoffs since they one of only a few AAAA schools there. They played in the Mid Penn conference and would barely have made the playoffs and would have long since been eliminated had they had to play CV, Central Dauphin, CD East.... they have the best of both worlds and it is BS. There tennis teams refused to complete matches which likely cost Mid Penn teams SOS points which kept them out of District 3 playoffs, but they don't care because they make it whether they are 12-3 or 3-12. That is true.
