I have really gotten into podcasts in the last few months. I’ve started to listen to this Panther-Lair podcast and generally like it. However, there are some podcasts that I just love and I wanted to share them with people. Also, I am interested in hearing about other podcasts that people really like and would recommend.
I really like learning about the language and why certain expressions are used. There’s a really cool podcast called Lexicon Valley from Slate. It’s really good. The host, John McWhorter a professor at Columbia and he can be a little pretentious. Also, I don’t share his love of musical theater. However, if you can get past those minor quibbles, it is an extraordinarily interesting listen.
I also love serials. I absolutely loved S-town and Heavyweight. In fact, I like pretty much anything from This American Life. Still, the best serial I heard this year was Slow Burn about the Watergate scandal. That is an absolute must listen for anyone who is a serious student of history or has any interest in that era. It was incredibly well done. They are doing another one shortly on the impeachment of Bill Clinton and I cannot wait to hear that either.
I also like Freakonomics radio and Mom and Dad are Fighting. They’re both very good, very interesting listens.
I would recommend all of those - especially S-town and Slow Burn.
What about you guys? What are you listening to, what should I be listening to?
