The models are all over the place, but it looks like some snow on Wed/Thursday and then maybe snow and ice Sat/Sun. There's a chance for some significant snow midweek - 10+ inches, but like I said this isn't a sure thing.

We've luckily missed out on these East Coast bombs.

It sure looks we are going to get hit with snow. It is just a matter of how much.

Yeah, I was just looking at Weather.com for this week, and see alot of 1-3 or 3-5" on almost every day this week. I do think it is uncanny how everyone of these systems seems to take that same 45 degree north east pass, taking it east of here and hammering Eastern PA.

A lot of that is because the coastal lows suck the energy out of the midwestern lows, so by the time it gets close to PA it breaks apart, if that makes sense.

It seems like an absolute monster of a storm missed us because of a slow moving system. I've seen models that has the Pittsburgh area upwards of 8-10 inches yet all of the local forecasts have between 1-3 or 0-1 inches each day throughout the week.

Just my own observation, but it seems to me that the local TV forecasters have boomeranged from the ridiculous "the sky is falling" to "some snow showers", even in the face of a considerable, locked in snow storm. I'm sure that has been driven by negative backlash. They have under predicted every storm we have had since December. They probably should be focused more in the middle and at least present the possibility IMHO.

Having said that, this could end up being just a couple of inches. We shall see.

That was the case up until last week when they had a pretty big swing and miss of the Sunday-Monday snow. Predicted 4-6 inches for many areas that got nothing more than a dusting. A lot of schools closed because of it, which isn't as big of a deal now with remote learning, but still. The overhyped coverage is the worst.

You forgot to mention, The impact of major snow storms hurt the poor and minorities more so than white people.

so let's "cancel" the weather men and women and their overhyped reporting.😎

Perhaps we are in a similar pattern as we were when I first came to PA. Early 70's, it seemed to be snowing by Thanksgiving and never quit until March...remember that Penn State game at Pitt stadium in '77 , the coldest I have ever been up to that point in my life....most of which was spent in SC

Didn't know that about last week. For the most part they under hype nowadays.

I think at this point the whole purpose of the local weatherman is to scare the beejesus out of as many people as possible by whatever means needed in an effort to get people to keep watching.

Pittgirl, I simply cannot believe that you think that they underhype the weather on local television.

They definitely under forecasted all the snow in December.

I never get my forecast from the TV. That's why a few times I was surprised listening to them and thinking it's going to be a LOT more than snow showers.

I am just curious did the drought ever break?

What makes me really mad is when the NBC Today show will use terms like 20 million people are at risk blah blah blah. Well there are older people that are unduly made to be worried. How is that responsible?

I am retired since may. Don’t care anymore. Lol.

Not a meteorologist but have lived thru many winters and watch the weather a lot. There seems to be patterns that develop every winter and last 6 to 8 weeks. Sometimes we get a winter that is very mild and precip free for a couple months and just when we think we are out of the woods the nasty stuff comes in for a while. Looks like a pattern of small disturbances every couple of days is in place. So far we have really had only 2 bad weather events up here in the mountains. One in December and one last week. Fingers crossed.

That's how the media operates. They scare people into submission. I don't listen or watch the mainstream media news reports any longer. They're always wrong and just scare people for no reason. Responsible reporting died a while ago.

They don't know. It could be nothing more than a dusting. Or it could be 10". I'll bet on the dusting, if that.

Anything outside of a day is useless.

I took meteorology as part of fulfilling the science requirement in college. Was actually surprisingly pretty interesting. But the prof said there’s no way to predict long term. Too many things they don’t fully understand and may never. This was a while ago so maybe some things have advanced but given the lack of accuracy in longterm forecasts that probably still stands.

I work remote and walk every day at lunchtime. They just salted the roads in my neighborhood... I sh*t you not.

Computer modeling has come a long way in the last 10 years or so. But at the end of the day weather IS an act of God, so....... 🤷‍♀️

Models are still all over the place for this week, so depending on the service you look at snowfall amounts are differing.

I am a Data Scientist and the weather models are NP-C meaning they other techniques needed to be used like a greedy method. They still stink.

And you know who is to blame for that?

After too many snow storms and grey days, best decision was to move to HHI. Been cool here. Finally warming up. Was 57 today. Had to wear a sweat shirt with my shorts. Barbaric....

Headed there in May for a couple of weeks. Can't wait.

Nah......nothing is happening.

LOL. I think we have been victimized in the past by alot of hype only to have mother nature have other plans and some warm finger of air, or some unknown front deflects storms south and east of us.

Not this year......some of these systems have Allegheny County dead on in their sites and this is one of those.

I moved into my house in 2015, and the next winter got a snowblower (December 2015). This AM, will be more times I have used the snowblower this winter than I have the previous 5 winters combined.
