OT: R.I.P George Bush

The man was a warrior. I appreciate the time in our country when leaders like him could lead with civility and respect.

George H. W. Bush, like Gerald Ford before him, proved you can disagree with your political opponents without being disagreeable. That is definitely not true of our politics today.
Very true. I was a different political animal than him but always liked and respected him.

RIP

funny, had his ass shot out from under him in a plane and bobbed around for hours in the Pacific in ww2 then went on to lead the CIA...and what tag did his political opponents try to pin on him...wimp..like I said laughable...

the anonymity of the digital age has killed civility forever...

Agreed,

You can disagree with his politics and respect the man for knowing he was trying to serve the country the best way he could.
Agreed. Just like McCain. And HW was a voice of moderation when W and the neo-cons were using 9-11 as false justification to start a war with Iraq. They didn’t listen to him, but he tried hard, along with Colin Powell and Jin Baker.

He represents a dead era of presidential dignity, as well as civility, restraint, respect and compromise in politics. RIP.

Very underrated president. Probably beats Clinton if Ross Perot is not on the ballot.....but you can’t change history.

I wasn’t old enough to vote, but i’ll never forget how excited my dad was to vote for him the 1st time and how my dad was a strong supporter.

Civility and respect are on hiatus presently -
But will return again.b
Like I said you can disagree with policy-
But feel someone is a good and decent person .

A perfect example of noblesse oblige.

How many of the privileged sons and daughters of the current generation would drop out of Yale and volunteer to be a torpedo pilot (not a good life expectancy)?

most yale and other ivy league students (and faculty) would volunteer to fight against the US military before joining with the US military..

Perot had nothing to do with him losing that election, a horrible economy is why he lost.

Being an adult is hard-
So making a reasonable decision is preferable to adhering to a campaign slogan.
You’re preaching to the choir. I enjoyed it immensely when HW reneged on his hollow campaign promise to his base, which anyone with half a brain knew was unfulfillable the moment it was uttered.

That said, despite the fact that I disagree with his politics and I voted against him twice I respect him as a decent, generally honorable man and president.
