Very sad day. I know this is cliche, but the basketball world lost a class act and real gentleman.
RIP Hondo. Hated the Celtics. Loved Havlicek.
It's not just watching your peers get older, but reaching a point where not only are the guys you grew up idolizing old men, but where even the guys who came up behind you, are no longer young. Nothing quite like running into one of the "young guys", and he's out with his grandkids. That's when you really know it's getting late. To put it in Pitt terms, it's now seeing Mike Ditka as an old man, and then realizing that Charles Smith is 11 years away from being a senior citizen. Time indeed flies!
During the nfl draft show my wife asked me why they had Joe Greene announcing the Steeler 1st round pick. I thought for a second and realized he had been their first round pick FIFTY YEARS ago. Yikes.
